About Aasraa Trust Aasraa Trust was established in 2009 to work with society’s most underprivileged and vulnerable children from the streets and slums of Dehradun. Aasraa is not just a charity but a vehicle for empowerment through education, skills training, nutrition, healthcare and shelter homes. Starting with street level mobilization, Aasraa uses a multi-faced approach that prepares children for mainstream education and transition to higher studies and skills training. Aasraa is certified by national Institute of Open Schooling and works with the education department of Uttarakhand to improve the quality of education at 9 government school in Dehradun. Aasraa is also implementing a Girl Education Program in four girls Inter Collages in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. Aasraa has built shelters for orphaned, abandoned, abused and special needs children. Aasraa started 14 years ago with 35 children and it’s now supports over 9000 children from the streets and slums across 50 project in Dehradun district. Job Profile: Special Educator cum Sign Language Instructor Work Hours: As per School Timings Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educator cum Sign Language Instructor to join our team at Aasraa Trust. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing specialized educational support to children with special needs, including those who are hearing impaired. You will use sign language to facilitate communication and ensure that all students receive a high-quality, inclusive education. Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with special needs.
Use sign language to communicate effectively with hearing-impaired students and teach them various subjects.
Adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects to students with special needs.
Collaborate with other teachers, specialists, and parents to ensure a supportive learning environment.
Monitor student progress and provide regular updates to parents and other stakeholders.
Provide a safe and supportive classroom environment that fosters learning and development.
Use a variety of teaching methods, including hands-on activities and technology, to engage students and enhance their learning experience.
Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education and sign language instruction.
Assist with the integration of special needs students into mainstream classes and activities.
Advocate for the needs of special needs students within the school and the broader community.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Education, or a related field.
Certification in sign language interpretation or instruction.
Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children with special needs.
Strong understanding of the principles and practices of special education.
Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in sign language.
Ability to develop and implement effective teaching strategies for students with diverse learning needs.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with children with special needs.
Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators, specialists, and parents.
Familiarity with educational software and technology to support learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
Additional certifications or training in special education methodologies.
