- Microbiological testing: Performing microbiological tests on water, ingredients, and other materials to detect harmful microorganisms
- Microorganism identification: Using a microscope to identify and classify microorganisms in water, air, and raw materials
- Culture preparation: Isolating and culturing bacteria and other microorganisms in prescribed media
- Data recording and analysis: Recording, analyzing, and interpreting data from microbiological tests and analyses
- Laboratory maintenance: Maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the laboratory
- Laboratory equipment maintenance: Recording the proper functioning of laboratory equipment
- Laboratory record keeping: Keeping a thorough and up-to-date record of laboratory activities and sample analyses
