Job Overview:- Job Title:-Customs Compliance Officer Department: Legal & Compliance Job Location: HO, Sector-43, Gurgaon Educational Qualification: Graduate Required Qualification: BA/MBA/LLB/LLM Experience Required: 10+ years Gender preference (if any):Male The Customs Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring that all import and export activities comply with applicable customs and SEZ regulations and laws. This role involves identifying the correct Harmonized System (HS) codes, calculating duties accurately, understanding duty exemption schemes, Free Trade Agreements (FTA), IGCR, export benefits, and adhering to Special Economic Zones (SEZ) and Free Trade Warehousing Zone (FTWZ) rules and procedures. The officer must possess excellent English communication skills, positive attitude, confidence to interact with senior customs officials, and problem-solving abilities. Additionally, the officer should be knowledgeable about reading Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), identifying risks associated with handling Hazardous and Dangerous Goods (DGR), and managing various types of cargo. Key Responsibilities:-
HS Code Identification:-
Accurately classify products using the Harmonized System (HS) codes.
Stay updated with any changes or amendments in HS codes.
Duties Calculation:-
Calculate customs duties accurately based on current regulations.
Understand and apply duty exemption schemes and FTAs.
Regulatory Compliance:-
Ensure compliance with all relevant customs laws and regulations.
Understand and implement SEZ and FTWZ rules and procedures.
Export and Import Benefits:-
Identify and apply for relevant export and import benefits.
Stay updatedinformed about changes in export benefit schemes and FTAs and their aplicability and documentary requirements.
Documentation and Reporting:-
Prepare and review customs documentation for accuracy and compliance.
Maintain records of import/export transactions and ensure proper filing.
Risk Assesment and Management:-
Read and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for various products.
Identify and mitigate risks associated with handling Dangerous Goods (DGR) and hazardous cargo.
Communication:-
Exhibit excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
Confidently interact and negotiate with senior customs officials and other stakeholders.
Capability ot writing responses to various queries and departmental communications
Problem Solving:-
Resolve customs-related issues and discrepancies promptly and effectively.
Provide guidance and support to the team on customs compliance matters.
Qualifications and Skills:-
Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
Proven experience in customs compliance or a similar role.
In-depth knowledge of HS codes, customs duties, duty exemption schemes, FTAs, and export benefits.
Familiarity with SEZ and FTWZ regulations and procedures.
Ability to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
Knowledge of handling Dangerous Goods (DGR) and hazardous cargo.
Excellent command of English, both written and verbal.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Confidence and ability to interact with senior customs officials.
Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
Work Environment:-
This role typically operates in an office setting, but may require visits to customs offices, warehouses, or ports.
Some travel may be required to meet with customs officials or to attend relevant training and conferences.
