The Chief Legal Officer (CLO) is responsible for overseeing all legal matters related to the organization, with a particular focus on industrial relations (IR) and labor law compliance. Key Responsibilities: A) Industrial Relations (IR) and Union Management: - Develop and implement strategies for managing relationships with trade unions - Lead and participate in collective bargaining negotiations to reach mutually beneficial agreements on wages, working conditions, and employee benefits. - Provide legal support in case of strikes, lockouts, and other labor disputes, ensuring compliance with labor laws. - Manage grievance procedures and dispute resolution processes between the company and employees/unions. B) Litigation and Labour Disputes: - Represent the company in labor-related litigation, including disputes over employment contracts, wrongful termination, discrimination, workplace safety, and unfair labor practices. - Oversee the resolution of labor disputes through arbitration, mediation, or litigation as needed. - Work closely with external counsel on high-stakes labor cases or disputes. - Manage pre-litigation processes, including gathering evidence, preparing legal documents, and providing strategic legal advice to mitigate risks. - Ensure the company’s compliance with labor laws, including overtime regulations, working hours, and occupational health and safety standards. - Develop and oversee audits to ensure labor law compliance across the company’s operations. C) Human Resources (HR) Legal Support: - Advise the HR department on employment law matters including recruitment, employment contracts, termination, benefits, compensation, and workplace policies. - Ensure all HR policies and procedures comply with local and national labor laws, anti-discrimination laws, and workplace safety regulations. - Provide legal input on company policies regarding workplace harassment, equal opportunity, diversity, and inclusion. D) Internal Investigations & Disciplinary Actions: - Lead internal investigations regarding employee grievances, misconduct, discrimination claims, and harassment cases. - Work closely with HR in drafting disciplinary actions and ensuring legal compliance throughout the process. Education: Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B) from an accredited institution. Master's in Law (LL.M) with a focus on labor or employment law is preferred. Bar Admission in the relevant jurisdiction. Experience: Minimum of 4-5 years of legal experience with a focus on labor law, industrial relations, and employment litigation. Strong experience in handling labor disputes, union negotiations, and compliance with labor laws. Experience in both corporate legal departments and labor law firms is an advantage. Litigation management experience**, including representing the company in labor and employment-related legal matters.
