Senior Systems Engineer - IBM iSeries\Power (AIX\AS400)
JOB SUMMARY Senior Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Services [IBM i Series/Power] is a key member of our operations which is a hand-on position primarily responsible for performing and driving day to day technical and administrative activities, future design strategy, maintaining and delivering optimal operational efficiency of IBM i Series & Power platform which is critical technology within our global hybrid cloud infrastructure landscape environments, which include both public & private cloud datacenters as well as server computing technologies across distributed locations. Senior Systems Engineer, Infrastructure Services [IBM i Series/Power] interact and collaborate closely with application integration, application workstreams, information security and other technical infrastructure teams providing deep and broad IBM i Series/Power platform infrastructure technical expertise to guide project planning, prioritization, troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical infrastructure related business challenges and issues. This role will also help identify, define, and propose future strategy for the i Series/Power platform which include driving design, planning and implementation of those future strategies, establish and document standards, processes, operational procedures, as well as drive automation of those processes and procedures that fosters continuous advancement of the overall our hybrid-cloud infrastructure global landscape. The role is responsible for pro-actively monitoring and administering our IBM i Series and Power Series hybrid-cloud and distributed infrastructure technology stack as well as participate/perform in design, planning, installation, configuration, patching, change management, upgrading, systems refresh, system data protection. This role will both perform the following duties as well as guide daily activities of contractors and managed service provider resources performing these duties which include responding to major incidents, analyze system logs for errors, and developing solutions, execute approved system change activities, applying upgrades of Operating Systems and plan/perform security vulnerability patching, and resolving customers request submitted via support tickets. This role is part of our Global Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure Services team and will require participation in on-call and frequent interaction with vendors and third-party service providers. Responsabilities:
Engineering and Operations (30%): Oversee day-to-day administration and operations of hybrid infrastructure systems, including best practices implementation, stability and performance improvements, security enhancements, upgrades, code automation, and troubleshooting. Work with vendors to achieve project goals and provide ongoing support. Evaluate, plan, and deploy IBM i Series/Power hybrid-cloud components, patches, and upgrades across various environments. Participate in on-call support.
Architecture Standards and Strategy (25%): Act as a subject matter expert for IBM i Series/Power platforms, ensuring reliability and adherence to best practices. Collaborate with stakeholders on technical design, issue management, and global IT initiatives. Review technical designs for consistency with IT standards and propose new technologies to enhance IT capabilities.
Technical Design and Improvement (15%): Participate in design sessions, integrate solutions into existing infrastructure, and continuously improve standards and processes. Develop technical designs, prototypes, and support procedures for cloud and on-premises systems.
Change Control and Communication (10%): Assist with change control, incident response, and infrastructure testing. Communicate regularly with IT management on team initiatives, infrastructure projects, and assignments.
Documentation (10%): Develop and maintain documentation for architecture, design, procedures, and testing activities. Prepare formal project documentation including specifications, system designs, and test scripts.
Stakeholder and Vendor Management (10%): Build and nurture relationships with users, IT teams, and vendors. Support current and future hybrid-cloud data center landscapes.
Requierements:
8 years in AS400/AIX/Linux infrastructure, including IBM i Series and IBM Power Series hardware, and operating systems (AS400 i/OS V5R4 to V7R5, AIX v6.2-v7.3, Red Hat Enterprise & SUSE Linux).
8 years in Enterprise IT with roles in global IT operations, design, implementation, migrations, transformations, and service management.
8 years in at least three of the following areas:
Enterprise Applications, Development, and Databases (e.g., Manhattan Associate WMI, IBM Client Access, DB2/400, SQL, INFORMIX, my SQL, Mongo DB, Power BI).
Hybrid-cloud technologies (e.g., Azure Skytap).
Data backup, disaster recovery, and SAN storage (e.g., MIMIX, Power HA, Commvault, Cisco MDS SAN).
Microsoft Windows hybrid domain infrastructure (e.g., Server 2012-2022, SQL Server, Active Directory).
Enterprise Collaboration and Web Services (e.g., Azure/Office 365, Teams, Share Point, IIS).
Hyper-Converged Infrastructure and Virtualization (e.g., Hyper-V, Azure Stack, Nutanix AHV).
End User Computing (e.g., Citrix Xen App/Xen Desktop, Intune, Azure Windows Virtual Desktop).
5 years of advanced networking knowledge (e.g., OSI model, TCP/IP, routers, load balancers).
5 years with Change Management/ITIL processes.
5 years with enterprise job scheduling, scripting, and automation (e.g., Azure Power Shell, Python, Ansible).
3 years with infrastructure orchestration and automation (e.g., Infrastructure-as-Code, Azure Iaa S/Paa S).
Education and Certification Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or 10+ years of equivalent experience.
Certification in IBM i Series and Power Series Platforms.
Additional certifications in Datacenter Technologies (e.g., SAN storage, Microsoft, Virtualization).
