Resident Care Manager
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Resident Care Manager is responsible for the operations of the Nursing Department within the Tiffany Village Retirement Residence Partnership (TVRRP). The Resident Care Manager plays an integral role in the provision of holistic and resident-centered Nursing care to the residents of Tiffany Village and Kenny's Pond Retirement Residences.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Focusing on customer service excellence, recognizing the importance of maintaining ongoing relationships with all our clients, inclusive of residents, families, guests, volunteers, and staff.
  • Participates as a member of the TVRRP Management Team and works collaboratively with and provides support to the entire team.
  • Ultimately responsible for overall management of resident care services and daily delivery and operations of nursing/care department.
  • Develops and implements operating budgets for the Nursing department, including the monitoring of expenditures, and allocation of costs within budget parameters.
  • Responsible for management of nursing/care staff.
  • Primary point of contact for family members and/or resident POAs for care related issues, concerns, inquiries.
  • Ensure appropriate equipment and supply needs are available in accordance with budget allocation.
  • Conduct and coordinate the accurate and timely completion of resident, and prospective resident, health assessments.
  • Responsible for approving resident admissions.
  • Review resident medical record for specific treatments, medication orders, diets, labs etc., for implementation and follow up.
  • Ensure resident suite, staffing levels, equipment and supply levels are adequate prior to a resident admission.
  • Cooperate with other members of the disciplinary team when coordinating services to ensure that the resident’s total regimen of care is maintained to the highest level.
  • Ensure resident care plans are developed and communicated accurately.
  • Periodically review residents care plans. Ensure care plans are updated as required.
  • Stay on top of all resident care issues, changes in treatment plans, medical condition, medications, diets, etc. and ensure such is properly documented and communicated.
  • Participate in the orientation of new residents/family members to the facility.
  • Review and investigate complaints and incident reports. Ensure follow-through on corrective action.
  • Meet and resolve issues with residents and/or family members, as required.
  • Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of policies and procedures.
  • Lead the implementation, and monitor the execution of, quality assurance measures.
  • Complete monthly, quarterly and annual evaluations, reports and audits.
  • Review nursing documentation for accuracy, consistency, completeness, and signatures.
  • Schedule and lead or coordinate departmental meetings and educational/training sessions.
  • Share “manager on call” duties for nursing/care department.
  • Ensure completion of nursing/care staff annual performance appraisals.
  • Approve departmental timesheets for accuracy.
  • Promote an atmosphere of teamwork and exceptional customer service.
  • Promote a safety culture by engaging in ongoing risk management and ensuring OH&S standards are met.
  • Act as Floor Warden for assigned Assisted Living Floor in event of Emergency/Alarm.
  • Perform other related duties as requested or required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must have active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  • Familiarity with standard practices of assisted living facilities, knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to assisted living/long-term care settings.
  • Knowledge of seniors living/care.
  • Previous experience with and understanding of the principles and practices of leadership and supervision of employees.
  • Previous experience in the delivery and management of resident/patient care.
  • Knowledge and understanding of policies, procedures and standards regarding infection prevention and control.
  • Strong sense of customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with residents, family members, colleagues and staff.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of staff.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
Experience, Training/Education and Work Record:
  • Completion of Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Completion of Master of Science in Nursing would be considered an asset.
  • 5 years’ previous experience in a Managerial role with specific responsibilities for directing a nursing team.
  • Previous experience working in a seniors’ care/living or geriatric environment, either in an Assisted Living or Long-Term Care facility.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills focused on supporting and empowering members of the Nursing care team.
  • Knowledgeable of the importance of and ability to develop, implement, and monitor compliance with internal policies & procedures.
  • Successfully meets the necessary employee requirements as stipulated in the operational standards by the Department of Health & Community Services governing agencies with home support licenses.
  • Current First Aid and CPR or BLS certification.
  • Focus on resident-centered approach to care.
  • Ability to lead by example and conduct regular audits of RNs and LPNs to ensure accurate and timely completion of medical documentation.
  • Exhibit flexibility and resilience required to meet the needs of residents.
  • Energetic, enthusiastic, motivating, compassionate and caring person who has demonstrated a passion to work with seniors.
  • A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
