A career at EPS provides incredible diversity and growth potential. Minimum Requirements To become an EPS officer, the most important qualification is a sincere desire to help others. We look for individuals driven by compassion, community, and a dedication to service. In addition to these personal qualities, applicants must also meet the necessary legal minimum requirements:
18 years of age or older at the time of application
No criminal conviction for which a pardon has not been granted
Canadian citizen or legal permanent resident at the time of application
In excellent health with no impending conditions
Must meet visual and hearing examination standards
Grade 12 high school diploma (Alberta standard) or equivalent; for International Applicants, an IQAS certificate or WES certificate is required
Good written and verbal skills in English
Two years of recent and verifiable employment, and/or two years of post-secondary education
Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license
Good driving record (maximum of five demerits)
Current certificate in standard first aid
Minimum 16-hour course with Provincial Occupational Health and Safety approval. A certificate must be issued within one year prior to the date of application
Current “Level C” certificate in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
Standards equivalent to those of the Canadian/American Heart and Stroke Foundation
Constable Salary Range 1st Year Constable - $76,291 2nd Year Constable - $80,843 3rd Year Constable - $94,512 4th Year Constable - $103,619 5th Year Constable - $113,869 *Earning potential increases with: court time, extra duty, shift differentials, overtime and stat holidays Benefits
