We are looking for an individual to join our growing team. The Miner 1 Construction Lead position will report to the Mine Supervisor.
About Us
The Keno Hill mine, located within the Keno Hill Silver District in Canada’s Yukon Territory. Keno Hill, is one of the highest-grade silver districts in the world, is situated 350 kilometres north of Whitehorse, and lies within the traditional territory of the First Nation of Na-Cho Nyak Dun. It comprises 242 square kilometres (km2) with numerous mineral deposits and more than 35 historical past-producing mine sites. Keno Hill is expected to produce 2.7-3.0 million ounces of silver in 2024 as the mine ramps up production.
The mine is owned and operated by Hecla Mining Company, headquartered in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Established in 1891, Hecla has a rich history as a distinguished and respected precious metals producer. Here’s what you can expect in this role:
- Understand and follow instructions
- Read and understand prints
- Identify manage material requirements for current and future tasks
- Perform manual labor in support of underground operations
- Be knowledgeable in the underground layout
- Perform pump installation and required monitoring or maintenance
- Perform fan/ventilation installation
- Follow good housekeeping practices
- Safely and efficiently operate front end loaders, forklifts (RTFL), scoop trams, scissor deck, Mac Lean shotcrete sprayer, Normet shotcrete sprayer and Normet Transmixer
- Safely operate underground light vehicles
- Follow procedures for reporting defective equipment
- Properly perform all pre-op equipment inspections
- Use basic hazard recognition
- Ensure crew works in a safe manner
- Perform a proper heading inspection (FLHA)
- Be able to perform complete workplace examinations, pre-operation inspections on mobile equipment
- Comply with Health, Safety and Security, Environmental and all Company policies and procedures
- Comply with jurisdictional health and safety regulations

- Be able to coach and mentor crews
- Assume responsibility of the supervisor in their absence
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Hecla Yukon’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems

Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 year of underground construction experience preferred
- Prior experience in the mining sector preferred
- Must be able to work independently, as well as a mentor
- Must be self-motivated
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must have flexibility with scheduling and be willing to work early mornings, nights, and weekends as needed
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Must be able to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing
- Ability to organize and write procedures in a logical/methodical manner
- Good time management skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality
- Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen

Work Environment and Job Schedule
Employees will be frequently exposed to; outside weather conditions, snow conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, potentially hazardous wildlife; moving mechanical parts; high precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock; explosives and vibration. The noise level in most work environments is occasionally loud. This position will require you to work a rotating shift of 14 days on and 14 days off and you will be provided camp housing and meals.
