Applied Lab Instruction for JRN 200
Students learn the process of generating, pitching, researching, writing, editing, and publishing stories for printed and on-line publications. With a weekly lab, this course focuses on fundamentals and principles for gathering, assembling, and producing accurate, timely news stories with headlines, photographs, cut lines, and social media according to Canadian Press style.

Applicants must hold at least a Bachelor of Journalism degree or equivalent in a related discipline.
Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated effectiveness in journalism studies, recent and relevant professional experience, and those with practical experience and knowledge in broadcast, print and multimedia. Knowledge of news production is expected.
The School of Journalism defines “recent and relevant professional experience” as working experience in the field of journalism within the last four years, and a minimum of three years of professional experience in the specific medium or method applicable to the course.
The successful applicant must have excellent communication skills, comprehensive knowledge of journalistic practices and a demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm for teaching.
Physical Demands Pay Grade Faculty Sessional Salary Range As per URFA Collective Agreement Status Term Work Hours
1:30 pm – 2:20 pm – LAB – Tuesdays
