JOB SUMMARY
Under the guidance of the Director (Innovation, Inuvialuit Science, and Climate Change), the Inuvialuit Community Research Network Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation and coordination of the Inuvialuit Community Research Network, comprised of remote staff from the six ISR communities. The Community Research Network will be an integral component of the implementation of Inuvialuit Regional Corporation’s climate change, energy, marine, Inuvialuit Knowledge and other research programs. The successful candidate for this position will possess expert knowledge in two or more of the subject matters of IRC’s research programs. The Inuvialuit Community Research Network Manager will secure funding, manage and mentor staff, provide technical expertise to oversee project finances, meet reporting deadlines and complete various administrative tasks to ensure the program’s success.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to work with internal and external partners and the Community Research Network workers to coordinate and assign various tasks and responsibilities related to active research projects. These tasks might include assigning the review of Research license applications, disseminating surveys, conducting interviews, etc. Although the successful candidate will focus primarily on the implementation of the Community Research Network, will also administer the Inuvialuit Research Ethics Board, facilitate all internal research license reviews and provide technical advice to senior management.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be/have:
Education:
At least a master’s degree in physical, social or life sciences or related field.
D. degree in a related field preferred
Candidates with a Bachelor of Science in a related field (or equivalent) and a minimum of 15 years related work experience will also be considered.
Experience:
At least five years’ experience in environmental, climate change, energy, marine-related studies.
Demonstrated understanding of research methods, with experience designing and implementing research projects.
Experience providing mentorship/training on data collection methods and facilitating/conducting workshops.
Supervisory experience in a research or policy-setting.
Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
At least 2 years of experience in data analysis and communicating research data with a focus on non-technical audiences.
Knowledge:
Knowledge of climate change, energy, marine and biodiversity as it relates to the ISR.
Specialized knowledge of data collection methods, analysis and synthesis of research data.
Demonstrated proficiency working with computers (Microsoft Suite);
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong networking skills.
Knowledge of research study designs, data analysis, and knowledge dissemination and mobilization strategies.
Knowledge of government research data infrastructure, research-related funding initiatives and opportunities for research collaboration.
Knowledge of principal entities, outside the ISR, who conduct, support, and/or promote research in the Canadian Arctic and greater circumpolar region (i.e. familiarity with the relevant research landscape).
Knowledge of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA), and the cooperative management structures established pursuant to the IFA.

Ability to work co-operatively with a variety of individuals and groups, in order to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff across IRC’s divisions and with partners and stakeholders from a variety of organizations (within and outside the ISR).

Highly motivated, analytical, dependable, independent with a strong work ethic.
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, both orally and written.
Proven organizational and project management skills: ability to plan, schedule, supervise, conduct, evaluate, and report on projects and programs.
Willingness to travel, up to three weeks at a time, within and outside the ISR.
Flexible and creative in finding solutions to issues that arise.
