EDUCATION
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Degree equivalency
OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
  • Possession of a valid Class #1 NWT Driver’s License Air Endorsed;
  • A Journeyman Heavy Equipment Operator’s certificate or an acceptable combination of training and/or experience;
  • An acceptable combination of training and/or experience in minor equipment repairs and preventive maintenance;
  • Valid First Aid Certification.
EXPERIENCE
  • Experience or substantial training in the operation of 3 or more types of heavy equipment such as 1-way tandem truck mounted snowplow, loader/backhoe, Bobcat, Vacuum Truck, hauling and spreading gravel and hauling of equipment with semi-trailer units;
  • Experience in minor vehicle/equipment repairs and preventive maintenance;
  • Experience living and working in an isolated community.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays and provincial/territorial holidays, when required;
  • Willingness to work in adverse weather conditions and in isolated and remote areas;
  • Willingness to wear a Parks Canada Agency uniform and personal protective equipment/clothing as needed.
Conditions of employment
  • Obtain and maintain a Reliability security clearance;
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license;
  • A pre-employment medical examination of an individual and his/her dependants may be required (When position is located in an area classified as isolated and remote, a pre-employment medical examination of an individual and his/her dependents may be required).
