Reporting to the Band Designate Manager, the Band Designate Assistant is involved in the planning processes to ensure consistency, promote community resources, cultural expertise and make familial ties to the Piikani Nation with the goal of preserving children’s cultural identity while in the care of Piikani Child and Family Services (PCFS.) This is done through collaborative efforts with the Child and Family Services Authorities (CFSA) and the Delegated First Nations Agencies (DFNA). The Band Designate Assistant must be knowledgeable on Piikani culture, customs and traditions. The Band Designate Assistant must also have a good understanding of Piikani Nation challenges and the initiatives/services provided by PCFS to help alleviate these challenges. The Band Designate Assistant will work with the Band Designate to help facilitate cooperation and knowledge sharing within the CFSA and DFNA and other First Nations. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a full-time, one-year contract position with the opportunity of an extension based on performance, operational needs and funding availability. This position will work primarily out of our Brocket office, however regular travel to our Calgary and/or Lethbridge office is required. Company fleet may be provided following a successful probation period. Hours of work will be 8:00am-4:00pm Monday through Friday. Some evenings and weekends may be required. The annual salary of this position will range from $48,000-$60,000 depending on education and experience levels. A benefits package will be provided after a successful probation period of 90 days. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Advocate for Piikani children and extended family (registered and potential to be registered).
Assist with facilitating family, community and cultural connections.
Assist the legal guardian to obtain registered Indian Status and Band Membership for eligible children.
Assist the legal guardian to ensure the First Nation child's Treaty Rights are protected and adhered to.
Ensure the children, parents and extended family have a voice in concurrent and permanency planning.
Assist the legal guardian to identify placement, extended family and community resources.
Enhance partnerships among the First Nation, CFSA, DFNA in the best interest of the child.
Advocate for the best interest of the child according to their respective First Nation values and beliefs.
Receive, review and secure confidential information pertinent to children’s files.
Act as a liaison between other agencies and community resources.
Work closely with Caseworkers and provide information/recommendations as necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
Post-secondary education in Human Services or a related field.
Experience working in a Human Services setting.
Experience working with Piikani children and families.
Knowledge of Piikani culture, values, language and traditions.
Working knowledge of relevant Acts and Policies such as: The Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act, Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Children and Family Services Authorities Act.
Clean Criminal Record and Child Intervention check.
