About the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Youth Worker to provide safe and secure accommodation and professional support for young people who are homeless by establishing rapport with young people and providing individual, flexible support through a person centred framework.This position is responsible for providing day to day support to young people aged 15 to 24 years old, Monday to Friday in the Crisis Accommodation program pathway.
Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a max-term (June 2025), full-time position based in Chisholm, ACT. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 3.
You will successfully

Assist in the daily operations of a 24-hour Youth Service environment within the ACT Youth Housing and Support program that promotes the physical, emotional, spiritual and social development of young people.

Work using the key principals outlined in the The Salvation Army Youth Model of Care – Journey to Independence to generate improved outcomes for young people.

Ensure young people are not subjected to any form of abuse and, in particular, bullying or the threat of bullying.

Through appropriate activities and strategies, build rapport and engage with young people in order to identify and respond to their immediate needs.

Participate in team activities, attend all staff meetings when scheduled and demonstrate a supportive approach to other staff members which contributes to the overall effectiveness of the team.
You will have

Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate IV level) in Youth Work, Social Work or related field.

ACT Working with Vulnerable People Certification.

Current ACT Driver License.

Current Senior First Aid Certification.

Computer skills – Microsoft Office and ability to quickly learn database programs.

Experience in youth work or within a Specialist Homelessness Service.

Demonstrated experience in engaging young people of varying cultural, racial, socio-economic and educational backgrounds.
