About the Role:
Acute Allied Health Services comprises of distinct allied health teams including social work, nutrition, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology and audiology and exercise physiology and aims to provide collaborative care working across other clinical divisions that make up Canberra Health Services, as required. The Acute Allied Health Service, Social Work Department, is a contemporary evidence-based service, providing high quality inpatient and outpatient care at the Canberra Hospital.
The Social Work Department is responsible for the care and support of patients across a range of critical and acute care areas of the Canberra Hospital. These include medical and surgical inpatient wards, intensive care unit, the emergency department, maternity and paediatric inpatient wards and a range of adult and paediatric outpatient clinics.
Social workers provide assessments and therapeutic interventions for patients throughout their patient journey. Patients may present with a range of psychosocial issues that impact their health circumstances across the lifespan including ante-natal care, newly acquired and persistent health conditions, traumatic injury and medical and surgical treatments.
Social Workers understand issues related to health and wellbeing, able to identify risks and appropriate interventions, the impact of the health issue on the person and their family/carer, including adjustment to change in their health. Social Workers promote improved client outcomes through working in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to provide high quality clinical services across a range of service specialty areas.
Clinical supervision and professional development is provided through team and department structures and informal and formal professional development opportunities are available.
