Psychosocial Recovery Coach

Recovery Supports Australia is an NDIS provider of psychosocial recovery coaching which provides one-on-one support coordination and coaching for NDIS participants with mental illness. Participants are assisted to break down their goals and are guided to achieve goals to help them enjoy a fulfilling and joyous life. We are dedicated to bridging the gap between the National Disability Insurance Scheme and mental health services, ensuring that our clients have access, choice and control of the care that best suits their needs.
Recovery Supports Australia is seeking Psychosocial Recovery Coaches to join our dynamic and passionate team and assist our ever-growing client base. We service a wide variety of clients and strive to provide individualised support and coaching based on each person’s recovery needs.
TIME FRACTION: Casual
CONTRACTED HOURS: Flexible in negotiation with participants
CONTRACT DETAILS: Ongoing subject to funding
JOB LOCATION: Hobart
CLASSIFICATION: Social and Community Services Level 4
PAY: Hourly Rate starting at $53.55 plus 11.5% superannuation
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The role of a Psychosocial Recovery Coach is to provide individualised support to National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) participants who have a mental illness. You will work with the participant to implement supports that align with the person’s plan for the purpose of building their capacity, managing the impact of their disability and improving their health, well-being and participation within the community.
  • Key to the role is supporting and enhancing a participant’s choice and control over the supports they receive
  • Coaches work collaboratively with participants, families, carers and other services to identify, plan design, and coordinate NDIS support.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
  • Provide individualised, specialised support to NDIS participants who have mental illness through building strong and respectful relationships and skilled coaching strategies
  • Assist the participant to understand and implement the supports (Informal-, Mainstream-, and/or Funded Supports)
  • Coach participants to be more participative in managing and directing their own lives
  • Help participants to break down complex goals into manageable tasks, hold them accountable and track progress
  • Develop a Wellness Recovery Action Plan and Crisis Plan for participants
  • Provide crisis support, where necessary, to participants
  • Provide coordination and transition support by considering individual circumstances and level of complexity of their disability, and match participants to programs that fulfil their needs whilst delivering continuous support and assistance
  • Build strong relationships with our team and clients by contributing to the development of Recovery Supports Australia through regular feedback and participation in team discussions
  • Deliver service in line with the Policies and Procedures and NDIS Act, the Victorian Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006, and NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Commissioner
  • Administration, documentation, data entry and reporting
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND CHARACTERISTICS:
  • Effective time management and balancing of workload
  • Accurate budget management of participant’s NDIS Plan, providing transparency to participants and your line manager, with a nil overspend (without prior Operations Manager approval)
  • Actively demonstrate efforts made towards assisting participants to achieve their goals
  • Accurate and timely management of reporting
  • Accurate and consistent case noting
  • Passion for helping others
  • Deep commitment to the reliable provision of respectful care and support
  • Sophisticated understanding of professional boundaries and safety
  • Prior experience of disability support work is helpful
  • Reliability and punctuality
  • Commitment to be flexible and responsive to the individual needs and goals of clients
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal and interpersonal)
  • Enthusiastic about working with people with a range of disabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Willingness and ability to work with complex and challenging behaviours.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
  • A tertiary qualification in Peer Work or Mental Health (minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health) or equivalent training; tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Occupational Therapist, Counselling
  • And/or a minimum two years of experience in mental health related work
  • Specialist knowledge and skills in psychosocial recovery, recovery framework, evidence-based practices, mental health and service navigation within the mental health system
  • Applicants with lived experience will be highly regarded
  • Complex case management experience is an advantage
  • Current Driver’s License and ability to undertake travel as required
  • Own vehicle with comprehensive insurance able to transport clients is preferred
  • Current First Aid and CPR credential
  • Current Police Check and Working With Children Check
  • NDIS Worker Check
  • Evidence of complete Covid 19 vaccination
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the Principles and Practices of the National Framework for Recovery-Oriented Mental Health Services
  • Evidence of right to work in Australia
  • Desirable: Knowledge and prior experience in delivery services under the National Disability Insurance Scheme
