We are searching for a capable Financial Counsellor forming part of the team at Karrayili Adult Education Centre, the Financial Counsellor position is integral to the high performance of the Community Resource Centre. The Financial Counsellor is responsible for the following duties:
Provides information, options, support and advocacy for individuals and can explore, develop and implement strategies for redressing debt issues;
Supporting the client in negotiations with creditors or advocating on their behalf;
Establish and maintain productive relationships within the community, local Indigenous organisations, peak bodies, businesses, not-for profit organisations, shire council, government departments and other key stakeholders.
About you:
Current driver’s licence (manual)
The ability to work with large and often complex consumer case loads.
A willingness to advocate for consumers who are experiencing financial distress, including working in a way that is non-judgmental and respects the consumer and their circumstances.
The ability to keep abreast of changes in Legislation and Regulations and to operate within legal principles and guidelines.
A working knowledge of credit systems used by organisations such as banks, finance companies, utility companies etc.
A knowledge of referral sources and the ability to make specialized referrals as deemed necessary.
Competent negotiating skills
Ability to maintain files and documentation.
