About the Program:
Nunkuwarrin Yunti’s Link-Up SA program assists clients in supporting and uniting families and individuals who were removed under Australia’s past government policies and practices including people identified as Stolen Generations, adopted, fostered or institutionalised. The Link-Up SA team provides culturally appropriate services including family tracing, case management, reunification, counselling, promotion state-wide and community awareness on the impacts of removals. Link-Up family reunions activities for clients takes into account the context of Aboriginal people’s lives and implications of cultural separation on their identity and wellbeing.
Job Description
About the Role:
The primary role of the Case Worker, Link-Up SA is and not limited to:
  • Undertake training and develop expertise in a family history research and reunion protocols
  • Undertake family research, investigate information and provide support and guidance to clients seeking reunification / family tracing in line with program guidelines
  • Work in partnership with Counsellor, Link-Up in developing case management plans
  • Coordinate family reunions in consultation with client, family, community, Counsellor, Link-Up, BTH Counsellor and respective Link-Up services
  • Liaise and maintain working relationships with key record agencies (government and non-government) and other relevant organisations and communities as requested
  • Participate in community visits around the state in partnership with Senior Case Workers, Promotions Officer and Bringing Them Home Counsellors
  • Respond to mainstream organisation requests for presentations in partnership with Counsellor, Link-Up
  • Continually build and maintain service provider relationships regarding access / protocols regarding resources relevant to family connections
  • Work in collaboration with national Link-Up networks in following principles and protocols outlined in the National Memorandum of Understanding
Desired Skills and Experience
Selection Criteria:
Essential -
  • Prepared to commence a Certificate IV relevant qualification i.e. Certificate IV in Stolen Generations Family Research and Case or Community Service, within 12 months of employment.
  • Minimum qualification of Certificate IV in Aboriginal Primary Health Care and minimum of two years of demonstrated vocational experience in the relevant health field.
  • Communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and be able to work in a manner which takes into account community kinship systems.
  • Ability to relate, mediate or liaise with other agencies, self-help groups and other Aboriginal organisations and communities
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and co-ordination skills
  • Capacity to work under pressure to meet required timelines
  • Understanding of basic computer concepts
  • Awareness of the need for, and means of maintaining confidentiality
  • Able and willing to undertake skills enhancement training and engage in professional development opportunities
  • Ability to set priorities and monitor own workflow.
Desirable -
  • Collection, collation, analysis and interpretation of data experience
  • Current Senior First Aid Certificate / Mental Health First Aid Certificate
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues relating to individuals who have been removed from their families and communities either through forcible removal and institutionalization, fostering and/or adoption
  • Comprehensive understanding of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues
  • Case management experience
  • Knowledge of family tracing processes
