The Role
An opportunity has become available for an Advanced Peer Worker (Identified Lived Experience - Emergency Department) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 12 000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.
You will
Serve as a positive role model to consumers and staff and as a source of information on their personal experience of managing their mental health
Connect to consumers, carers and staff providing a positive example of recovery and as a source of information on their personal experience of managing their mental health
Support and mentor the AO3 Peer workers
Utilising experience, skills and knowledge in; consumer education, support and provide a responsive framework of psycho education that meets the needs of consumers
About you
To be successful in this position you will require:
Experience working as a Peer Worker in a public mental health or alcohol and other drug service or the non-government sector is essential.
It is highly desirable that applicants hold a Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or can demonstrate that they are working towards the same.
It is a mandatory requirement of this position that the employee has a lived/living experience of mental illness, service use and recovery and is able to use this experience to support others living with mental health and substance use challenges.
Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against and remain vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B
Tuberculosis screening, to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required
Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed
Criminal History Screening will be required for new employees (GCH will cover cost)

Base salary ranging from $45.81 - $50.46 per hour

The Advanced Peer Worker works in partnership with Gold Coast Mental Health and Specialist Services Acute Care Team based at Robina Hospital Emergency Department, the Lived Experience (Peer) Workforce Team and other service providers to achieve best outcomes for consumers and their families.
