The Montessori Elementary & Middle School, Before and After School Staff
TITLE: Before and After Care Staff MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent (GED) 2. Experience and Qualifications: Previous experience working with children in a similar role, such as childcare, babysitting, or educational settings, is preferred. A background in early childhood education or relevant certifications is a plus. 3. Childcare Skills: Demonstrated ability to engage and connect with children, understanding their needs, and providing appropriate care and guidance. 4. Responsibility and Reliability: Punctuality and dependability are essential for this role, as parents rely on your presence and commitment to their child's well-being. Constant supervision of children and ensuring that children are safe and looked after at all times. 5. Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with children, parents, and colleagues, maintaining a positive and professional attitude. 6. Safety Awareness: Knowledge of school safety procedures and the ability to identify and address potential hazards or emergency situations promptly. 7. Organization and Time Management: Ability to plan and coordinate activities, manage multiple responsibilities, and ensure a smooth and structured routine for the children. 8. Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changing circumstances and accommodate the needs of children and families. 9. Background Check: Successful completion of a background check, including criminal record verification, as required by local regulations. OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION: Before and After School Care Employee- In this role, you will be responsible for providing supervision, guidance, and a safe environment for children before and after school, as needed by their families. Your primary focus will be to ensure the well-being and happiness of the children in your care while maintaining open and effective communication with parents or guardians. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Follows local, state and federal law and adheres to Public Education Department and Local School Board Policy 2. Supervise Children: Ensure the safety and well-being of children before and after school hours, maintaining a secure and nurturing environment. 3. Organize Recreational Activities: Plan and engage children in age-appropriate activities, such as arts and crafts, games, outdoor play, and educational tasks. 4. Help with Homework: Support children with their homework assignments and provide assistance when needed. 5. Foster Positive Relationships: Build a rapport with children, establishing trust, and maintaining a positive and respectful relationship. 6. Communicate with Parents/Guardians: Maintain open and effective communication with parents/guardians, keeping them informed about their child's activities, behavior, and any concerns or incidents that may arise. 7. Ensure Safety and Security: Follow safety protocols, including monitoring the premises, enforcing safety rules, and addressing any potential hazards or emergencies promptly. 8. Maintain Cleanliness: Keep the environment clean and organized, ensuring that all toys, equipment, and materials are properly stored. 9. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of attendance, activities, incidents, and other relevant information as required. 10. Maintain confidentiality of student’s names when writing reports and relaying updates to parents. 11. Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned by administration REPORTS TO: Principal or Assistant Principal TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year will be outlined in a Memorandum of Employment. Salary to be determined by individual training and experience level on the current Governing Council Approved Admin Salary Schedule for Before and After Care Staff. EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Governing Council’s policy on evaluation of administrative personnel. PHYSICAL RATING LEVEL: This position will require the employee to function at a “medium” physical capacity as defined by Workman’s Compensation statutes. “Medium” physical capacity indicates the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally or up to 25 pounds frequently.
