YWCA Lower Cape Fear Position: Swim Instructor Classification: Non-exempt, part-time Reports to: Aquatics Director Position Summary: A swim instructor teaches the learn-to-swim programs at the YWCA pool in accordance with YWCA program policies and American Red Cross program progressions. This exciting role works with children as young as three years old as well as adult swimmers, teaching both beginning and advanced skills. Minimum Qualifications: · At least 2 years of experience working with pre-k and/or school-aged children; · Comfort and experience in and around the water; · Availability weekday evenings and/or Saturday mornings; · Previous experience as a swim instructor/coach, preferred; · Ability to pass the Water Safety Instructor Certification; · Standing for periods of time, moving around on deck and in the pool, lifting students and pool equipment are all expected parts of the job; and · Must be 16 years old or older. Responsibilities & Essential Functions: · Lead and teach small groups of swimmers in a fun and engaging way through swim skill progressions; · Put your customer service skills to work as you discuss the swimming development of each swimmer with their caregiver during the lesson session and at the conclusion of the program; · Complete all required paperwork to YWCA standards; · Become proficient in your swim instructor role through thoughtful hands-on training with the YWCA Lower Cape Fear Aquatics Program and American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification; · Work a set schedule with a variety of shifts including weekends; and · Work alongside the facility safety team to follow all safety standards keeping children, families, and staff well-being top of mind.
