Be part of an exciting team within Optum where you can utilize your Operations experience to lead a team of Pharmacy Care Coordinators specializing in Prior Authorizations.


Must be able to work Monday - Friday with a set schedule of hours between 7am - 7pm CST. Some overtime and Holidays may be required, based on business needs.


The Supervisor role will be to lead a team of pharmacy care coordinators and partner with operational leaders to drive growth, create efficiencies, and improve the healthcare experience for both patients and providers. We take a hands-on approach to patient care that makes a meaningful imprint on the health and quality of life of each patient. We are committed to quality outcomes for the patients we serve.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of up to twenty Pharmacy Care Coordinator whose responsibilities entail preparing prior authorizations for submission, obtaining support documents for prior authorizations, follow up on prior authorization outcome, addressing issues and handling concerns from other corresponding departments and sites
  • Directly lead and support up to two team leads
  • Oversee projects and initiatives to resolve operational challenges using defined processes, expertise, and judgment
  • Work closely with operational and other functional leaders to develop and maintain the operational infrastructure
  • Set priorities for the team to ensure task completion
  • Coordinate work activities with other supervisors
  • Responsible for the overall management of executing strategy, training, developing metrics, and provide mentoring and coaching
  • Travel will be less than 10%

Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of Pharmacy experience (mail order, retail, hospital, LTC etc...)
  • 1+ years of Lead or Supervisory experience
  • 1+ years of Process/Project Management Skills
  • MS Office proficiency (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Proven solid problem - solving skills
  • Proven ability to work independently

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialty Pharmacy experience
  • IRIS experience
  • Pharma, PBM, or Managed Care experience

California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. Residents Only: The salary range for this role is $48,300 to $94,500 annually. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. United Health Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
