Snowmaker Supervisor

Job Title: Snowmaker SupervisorLocation: Blue Hills Ski Area; Canton, MAReports to: Mountain Operations ManagerJob Type: Full-Time, Part-Time, Seasonal
Position Overview:
The Snowmaker Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the snowmaking team at Blue Hills Ski Area, ensuring the production of high-quality snow to support optimal skiing and snowboarding conditions. This role requires a strong understanding of snowmaking equipment, weather conditions, and safety protocols. The Snowmaker Supervisor will lead a team of snowmakers, coordinate snowmaking activities across the mountain, and work closely with other departments to meet snow coverage targets and maintain smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervision & Leadership:
  • Lead, train, and mentor a team of snowmakers to ensure safety, efficiency, and quality in snowmaking operations.
  • Assign daily tasks, ensuring proper staffing levels for snowmaking operations.
  • Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Snowmaking Operations:
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of snowmaking equipment, including snow guns, compressors, pumps, and related machinery.
  • Monitor weather conditions and adjust snowmaking operations to maximize snow production based on temperature, humidity, and wind conditions.
  • Work with the snowmaking team to ensure snow coverage on key trails and ensure a consistent, high-quality snow surface across the ski area.
  • Safety & Compliance:
  • Enforce safety procedures and ensure the team follows all snowmaking safety protocols.
  • Conduct regular safety briefings and provide ongoing safety training to snowmaking staff.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and company standards for snowmaking practices.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
  • Work closely with the grooming, lift operations, and mountain operations teams to coordinate snowmaking efforts and optimize trail conditions.
  • Communicate with the Mountain Operations Manager to report progress, challenges, and equipment needs.
  • Keep accurate records of snowmaking activities, including equipment usage, weather conditions, and snow production.
  • Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
  • Perform routine inspections and maintenance of snowmaking equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot and repair snowmaking equipment as necessary to minimize downtime and keep operations running smoothly.
  • Problem Solving & Decision Making:
  • Analyze weather forecasts, snowmaking conditions, and operational needs to make informed decisions about snowmaking priorities.
  • Address any issues that arise during snowmaking operations, from equipment malfunctions to staffing challenges, and provide effective solutions.
Qualifications:
  • Experience:
  • Previous experience in snowmaking or a related field (such as mountain operations or equipment maintenance) is preferred.
  • Prior supervisory or leadership experience in a technical or outdoor environment is highly desirable.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge of snowmaking equipment, including snow guns, compressors, pumps, and water systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on snowmaking machinery.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to work outdoors in cold and varying weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and perform physical tasks as required.
  • Certifications:
  • Valid driver’s license
  • First Aid/CPR certification (preferred but not required).
  • Other Requirements:
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work early mornings, mid day, nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays as needed during the ski season.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on safety and operational efficiency.
Working Conditions:
  • Outdoor work in cold, snowy, and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
  • Shifts may include early mornings, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak snowmaking periods.
  • Work in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
