Job Title: Snowmaker

Reports To: Snowmaking Supervisor / Mountain Operations Manager
Position Summary:
The Snowmaker is a key member of the mountain operations team responsible for ensuring optimal snow conditions for skiers and snowboarders. This role involves operating snowmaking machinery to produce artificial snow, monitor weather conditions, and maintain snowmaking equipment. As a Snowmaker, you'll play an essential part in creating a safe and enjoyable environment for guests by helping to ensure the ski area has adequate snow coverage throughout the season.
Key Responsibilities:

Snowmaking Operations:
Operate snowmaking guns, fan guns, and other snowmaking equipment to produce artificial snow.
Set up and monitor snowmaking equipment across the mountain to ensure consistent snow coverage on trails, and other skiable areas.
Adjust snowmaking machines based on weather conditions to optimize snow production, ensuring high-quality snow is produced at the right time.
Weather Monitoring & Adjustments:
Regularly monitor weather conditions (temperature, humidity, wind) and snow quality to determine optimal snowmaking times.
Adjust equipment settings based on real-time weather data to maximize snow production efficiency.
Equipment Maintenance & Repairs:
Perform daily maintenance on snowmaking equipment, including checking for wear and tear, cleaning, lubricating, and troubleshooting.
Perform minor repairs and adjustments to snowmaking guns, pipes, hoses, and related equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Safety Compliance:
Ensure all snowmaking activities are conducted according to safety protocols, including proper handling of equipment and adherence to operational procedures.
Conduct routine checks on equipment for safety hazards and report any issues to supervisors immediately.
Collaboration with Mountain Operations Team:
Work closely with the snowmaking team, mountain operations staff, and ski patrol to ensure snowmaking priorities align with the needs of the ski area
Assist in setting up and closing down snowmaking equipment at the beginning and end of the season.
Snow Quality Control:
Monitor snow quality (density, texture, etc.) and make adjustments to snow production as necessary to ensure the best possible snow conditions.
Report any changes or concerns regarding snow quality to supervisors.
Record Keeping & Reporting:
Keep detailed records of snowmaking operations, equipment maintenance, and any adjustments made to equipment or snowmaking parameters.
Submit reports on snowmaking progress, weather conditions, and equipment status as needed.

Qualifications:

Experience & Skills:
Previous experience in snowmaking or in a related outdoor, mechanical, or maintenance role is preferred.
Basic mechanical and troubleshooting skills are required.
Ability to operate and maintain snowmaking machinery, including snow guns, compressors, and water pumps.
Strong understanding of weather conditions that affect snowmaking (e.g., temperature, humidity, wind).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work long hours outdoors in cold, snowy, and potentially harsh weather conditions.
Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, such as hoses and snowmaking guns.
Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and perform physical labor for extended periods.
Personal Attributes:
Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to detail.
Ability to work effectively in a team and independently.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as snowmaking is often required overnight and during early morning hours.

Working Conditions:

Schedule:
Seasonal, with varied hours including early mornings, nights,overnights, weekends, and holidays based on snowmaking needs and weather conditions.
Environment:
Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, snow, and high winds.
Exposure to high noise levels from snowmaking equipment and machinery.
Physical Demands:
The position requires physical stamina for lifting and carrying equipment, bending, kneeling, and standing for long periods. Must be able to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting heavy hoses, climbing ladders, and maneuvering snowmaking machinery.
