Sentinel Command and Launch Branch Lead

Job Description
BAE Systems is seeking an exceptional team leader for an exciting opportunity to support the Air Force's acquisition of the next generation Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) weapon system, known as the Sentinel ICBM Program.

The Sentinel Program (formerly known as GBSD) is an enormous and complex “Mega-Project” replacing the entire ICBM weapon system deployed across tens of thousands of square miles in five states. Without a doubt, Sentinel is one of the Department of Defense’s (Do D’s) most important acquisition efforts for the next decade, if not longer. It includes a complete refurbishment or replacement of more than five hundred aging Minuteman III ICBM facilities to secure and support a newly-designed, technologically-advanced ballistic missile. It will also provide an entirely new command & control system (including an updated airborne launch capability) as well as vast array of required support equipment specifically engineered to operate and sustain the new weapon system over the next 4-5 decades. This is a long-term project with the weapon system anticipated to deploy over a nine-year period beginning in the late 2020s and remaining operational until at least 2075.

Job Description:
This position will directly support the Sentinel Program’s Command & Launch (C&L) Branch as they acquire the weapon system command & control capabilities for the next generation ICBM. This senior manager will lead a team of 40+ engineers, project managers, and weapon system subject matter experts who provide expert advice and support to Sentinel program leaders on all command & control aspects throughout the acquisition cycle. Areas of responsibility that fall under the C&L Team include:
  • Weapon system command & control (e.g., launch console and command data processing, etc.)
  • ICBM codes/cryptography (i.e., securing the nuclear launch codes and assuring confidentiality, integrity, and authenticity of commands)
  • ICBM targeting (i.e., system processing of strategic aim points)
  • Nuclear command, control & communications (NC3) systems (i.e., national communications systems used for receiving Presidential nuclear orders)
  • ICBM command pathways (i.e., hardline & RF networks for voice & data command transmission and reception)
  • Airborne launch control capabilities (i.e., secondary launch capability on board a US Navy E-6B aircraft)
  • Actuation & mechanical systems (e.g., missile suspension system, launcher closure door system, ballistic gas generators, missile umbilical retractors, etc.)
  • Power distribution & endurance systems (e.g., backup generators, emergency batteries, HVAC systems, etc.)
  • Physical security systems (e.g., motion sensors, visual sensors, delay features, etc.)
  • This experienced team leader must have exceptional attention-to-detail skills and a demonstrated ability to drive team performance through coaching, mentoring, and training.
  • Pursuant to Government contract, this position requires US Citizenship status.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
12 years of experience in direct program management of contracted workloads
14 years (12 years with a master’s degree) of progressive experience in systems integration and analysis of military hardware and software systems/processes (or commercial equivalent)

BS/MS Engineering, Computer Science, Software, Mathematics, Physics, or equivalent experience in applicable domain.

Must have a current Secret security clearance or higher (within last 6 years or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and be able to obtain a Special Access Program (SAP) and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance within a reasonable timeframe.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Proven experience leading/managing a team of direct-reports is a must

Comprehensive knowledge regarding the Air Force Acquisitions Management; Program Management; Earned Value Management; Performance Management Baseline; Risk, Issue & Opportunity (RIO) management; and stakeholder engagement is highly desirable.

High level of proficiency in effectively using Jira and Confluence to manage team taskings and enhance overall team collaboration is very desirable.

High level of proficiency using office software such as Microsoft Office Word, Power Point, and Excel is very desirable.

Self-motivated with superior verbal and written communications skills in addition to sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with Air Force customers as well as senior company managers.
