Section Leader

Division/Department: Warehouse (CC) or Onsite Location Reports to: Supervisor

Section Leader Purpose:
Manages and leads a team of associates. Communicates company goals, safety practices, quality standards, and deadlines to team. Motivates team members and assesses performance. Informs management on team’s performance, communicates concerns, and policies among management and team members.
Section Leader Job Duties:
Responsibility - Promote and ensure all company policies are being followed
· Must make sure that all policies, including those in the Associate handbook and the Safety guidelines set by NSE are being followed (monitor dress code and cell phone policy) and must report all violations to your Supervisor/Assistant Manager.
· Must be able to delegate and have a high sense of urgency about production issues and respond to situations in a time sensitive manner.
· Section Leader will confer with SV on a daily basis to determine what the daily targets and goals are for associate production and development.
· Be able to allocate manpower where needed to cover attendance issues. Understand your associate’s strengths and weaknesses.
· Section Leader must ensure that production tact times are being met.
· Must have the ability to communicate with the customer on a daily basis.
· Ensure all associates have assigned duties throughout the shift (associates should be working at all times).
· Ensure break and lunch schedules are followed.
· Report any misconduct to management. Do not cover up any wrongdoing.
· Support new ideas for department improvement.
· Ensure all associates have assigned 5S responsibilities and are posted on 5S information board.
· Correct and/or report any safety and health hazards.
· Be proactive in helping to avoid risk and injury with your associates while working at NSE
· Complete all required section leader classes.
· Attend all plant and department section leader meetings and be on time.
· When special activities occur where layout changes, cycle counts, or trainings are planned for a specific area, it is expected and required that the Section Leader of that area participate in those activities. This would also include any non-production days where OT might be required.
· Feed information forward and provide feedback to associates and management.
· Continuously seek ways to improve efficiency and productivity.
· Ensure all equipment is returned to its proper locations by the end of each shift and that all are accounted for. (Scanners, Forklifts, Pallet Jacks, etc.)
· SL needs to have basic computer skills in Excel. SL will need to know how to send emails. Must know how to maneuver through GCCS screens.
· Complete why why investigations, safety/quality incidents, and other root cause investigations as deemed necessary by management.
· Actively participate in the NC Circle competition on a yearly basis.
Encourage Associate Development:
· Set goals and objectives for associates to help promote their development.
· Make associates aware of expectations and hold them accountable.
· Encourage associates to make decisions and think outside the box.
· Be available to your associates to assist them wherever needed.
· Be flexible to go and work anywhere you are needed and encourage cross training throughout the entire department.
Lead by example with complete fairness and ethics:
· Section Leader must always set a good example for his/her associates and other co-workers.
· Be respectful to your associate and co-workers. Never use inappropriate language or profanity. Do not allow your associates or anyone else to use profanity or be disrespectful in any way to any associates at NSE.
· Maintain a positive attitude at all times.
Safety /Environment
· Inspect and ensure that all associates have proper PPE at the beginning of the shift
· Check the process areas and equipment for safety issues
· Manage a sound ergo rotation schedule daily
· Report issues or concerns immediately to the Supervisor/Manager
· Understand NSE’s commitment to safety concepts and practices
· Follow all safety rules and requirements.
· Confirm equipment check sheets are completed as required:
o Report any issues or damage to equipment immediately
o Turn in all inspection sheets daily at the end of your shift
o All areas filled out completely or N/A entered
o Sign offs done correctly
· Ensure that all trailers are properly strapped according to NSE MQU Policies and load strap SOP
· Avoid risk and injury while working at NSE
· Correct and/or report any safety and health hazards
· Ensure all associates have assigned 5S responsibilities and are posted on 5S information board.
· Promote safety during the pre-shift and mid-shift meetings.
· Ensure all equipment is returned to its proper locations by the end of shift and that all are accounted for (Scanners, Forklifts, Pallet Jacks, etc.).
Quality
· Monitor 5S assignments. Establish a clean, organized, and well-maintained work environment.
· Complete required 5S audits daily. Walk through and inspect your area.
· Report any inventory irregularities to your SV immediately
· Leader should be knowledgeable of EAH’s, Small Lots, carryovers, and IPP Tags.
· Follow IPP Tag procedures
· Confirm production targets are being met throughout the day and again before the end of your shift. Report any issues to your supervisor.
· Inspect your area each shift to ensure there are no case packs left in the staging area that should have been shipped.
· Ensure your associates have the most recent up to date case pack images and vanning layouts.
· Randomly audit all trailer codes within your area weekly.
· Strive for and teach quality in all aspects to your associates daily. Ensure all associates have review time of past problem history within your area of responsibility.
Cost
· Help manage overtime in your area
· Guarantee correct receipt of all parts
· Help reduce and control unnecessary cost of production supplies (gloves, markers, pens, tape), spilled parts, damaged trailers, forklifts, and all other equipment.
· Strive to work within departmental budgets as directed by the supervisor
Delivery
· Issue daily delivery tools to associates and confirm their usage throughout the shift.
· Support overtime scheduled or unscheduled.
· Support associates as needed on production processes.
· Monitor production triggers throughout the day. Give quarterly reports to your SV. Report any issues to your supervisor.
· Ensure Correct Put away.
· Monitor KLS system, WNF’s, and confirm deliveries to the plant.
· Ensure that all trailers are properly strapped according to NSE Policies and load strap SOP.
· Expectation is to learn, understand, and teach Parts Order Plan to your associates so that you as the leader and your associates have a well-rounded knowledge of how the job process works in production.
Morale
· Promote good communication and teamwork throughout the entire department
· Promote unity and morale among all associates.
· Treat all associates equally. Never show favoritism.
· Lead the daily pre-shift meeting and inform associates about issues important to their area & department.
· Interact with all of your associates on a daily basis
· Encourage ideas, support feedback
· Provide leadership and encourage associate development through cross training with the understanding of how their job can affect/impact the customer.
New Model
· Support all New Model activities in the Supply Chain Department
· Train your associates on New Model change points
Behavior
· Feedback and feed forward all concerns
· Respect the position of management and associates
· Refrain from speaking negatively concerning management or any NSE company policies
PIV Licensing
· Ensure Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIV) requirements are completed as per NSE safety standards.
Authority
· The Section Leader has the authority to bring to an associate’s attention any issues concerning unsafe acts, quality issues, and/or 5S related issues in his or her area.
Section Leader Requirements:
· High School Diploma or GED (required)
· Minimum 6 months experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment
· Ability to motivate and lead a team to meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements.
· Must be willing to work any shift in any department and on weekends.
· Must be able to speak in front of a group and hold pre-shift meetings.
· Must always have and maintain a Valid Forklift License
· Good communication and organization skills
· Analytical and PC skills (must be able to function on a PC)
· High level of teamwork
· Able to lift up to 40 lbs. frequently
· AS400 and GPCS Preferred
· Must be able to Multi-Task and Work at a Fast Pace
· Must have a good attendance record and be willing to promote good attendance
· Must promote and enforce all policies which include safety
· Must lead by example with complete fairness and ethics
· Must be able to read, write, and perform mathematics
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.80 - $19.30 per hour
