POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
Creation and data entry of ROI Releases/Requests into Epic and for verifying the information from the Patient Authorization to Disclose, Release and/or Obtain Protected Health Information form is complete and accurate.
Implements HIPAA and other regulatory and legal requirements related to medical records, and specifically the release of medical records and performs other duties assigned
DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
Enterprise Records and Health Information (ERHI) is a Shared Service Department that supports all aspects of the patient medical record from governance, integrity, documentation timeliness, completion, clinical coding, billing, release, and tracking to management of access, retention, and destruction.
ERHI provides advice and resources related to the lifecycle management of all UW Medicine records
ERHI is an integral part of the Enterprise Revenue Cycle and has a unique role in the organization that supports both clinical and operational activities.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Creates ROI Releases including entering, reviewing, and verifying the information from the Patient Authorization to Disclose, Release and/or Obtain Protected Health Information form is completed before creating the ROI Release in Epic in an accurate and timely manner and in accordance with time category and release type, and ensuring standardized naming conventions related to releases.
Responsible for utilizing appropriate tools and resources to assist in the categorizing and prioritizing release types. Prioritizing work in accordance with departmental standards and daily work assignment; utilizing technology to complete job responsibilities and keeps expertise in technology. Ensures all work product is accurate and audited and meets departmental productivity and quality expectations.
Handles a high volume of incoming ROI Releases and assesses the validity and completeness of release of information authorizations. Complies with UW Medicine risk management, compliance, and information security requirements; observes principles of data security and patient confidentiality. Protects and ensures confidentiality of PHI, and adheres to policies regarding confidentiality and security of records.
Keeps up with emails daily. Participates in and completes office meetings and training sessions as assigned to continually improve skills and stays current with changes in operations. Performs other duties or special projects as assigned.
REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduate or equivalent including two years’ experience with release of information and medical records, or, equivalent education and experience.
