Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our team. The Lab Tech will be responsible for conducting and documenting ASTM and other in-process and finished board tests. Safety and quality are paramount in this role, ensuring a safe workplace and the highest quality products.
Requirements:
Proficiency in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, averages, fractions, decimals, and percents).
Basic computer skills in word processing, e-mail, spreadsheets, and databases for data entry.
Written communication skills for reporting analytical results and business communications.
Logic and reasoning skills for translating analytical data into logical conclusions.
Higher education or experience in a technical field or gypsum wallboard plant is desirable but not necessary.
Primary Duties: Safety:
Participate in all required safety training and meetings.
Familiarize with the MSDS and HMIS for the laboratory and additives areas.
Operate safely, following all plant and departmental safety rules.
Understand proper lock-out procedures for all job-related equipment.
Wear appropriate PPE for job conditions.
Maintain housekeeping in designated areas.
Understand JSAs for the work area.
Quality:
Conduct tests on DSG, land plaster, stucco, accelerator, slurry, and finished board as specified by ASTM and company technical bulletins.
Accurately record test results.
Inform the Lab Supervisor or Production Foreman of any non-compliant test results.
Authority to withhold wallboard from shipment if quality standards are not met.
Additional Duties:
Flexibility to fill in on other jobs when needed.
Perform other duties as assigned by the management.
Machines, Tools, and Equipment: The role involves using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and office equipment, including but not limited to utility knives, tape measure, micrometer, drill press, table saw, grinder, blender/mixer, Universal tester, scales, sieves, ovens, humidity cabinets, hot plate/magnetic stirrer, flow meters, pressure/force gauges, pumps, moisture analyzer, p H meter, calculator, copier, computer, and printer. Work Environment and Conditions:
Work in laboratory, production plant, and mill areas.
The laboratory is heated and air-conditioned, but the production plant areas are not.
PPE and Hearing protection is required in the plant.
