Addison Construction Co. builds new and upgrades high voltage substations primarily in the Rocky Mountain States and across the nation. In this position, one will coordinate and manage all on-site activities, as well as work with field personnel, inspectors, customers, and others to deliver successful projects to owners, on time and on budget with the desired level of quality. Our Superintendents are working Superintendents and do not manage from the ground. The position requires someone with the ability to perform well under pressure and who can quickly learn and understand various processes regarding Addison Construction Co.’s policies and procedures. The construction superintendent will be responsible for orderliness on-site and ensure compliance with safety regulations. This position requires the person to be a collaborator and to identify and report any problems to management in a timely manner. Effective communication and people skills are required. Project Superintendent is primary project contact. Must be available to accept and respond to business calls, emails and texts during work and non-work hours. Must evaluate the information in each communication and take appropriate and timely action. If the message is urgent the response must be immediate.
Be certified or able to certify to operate heavy equipment such as cranes and forklifts.
Ensure all required materials, equipment, and inspections occur to support the project schedule.
Responsible for site safety. Ensure the overall jobsite is safe for workers and visitors as well as manage compliance with established company safety policies.
Work with management to budget, forecast, and manage field personnel as well as management equipment, materials, tools, and other cost considerations.
Prepare work plans and develop temporary facilities for the project.
Understand, review, and manage project plans, specifications, and manufacturer data and execute project-based documentation.
Review construction documents for completeness and constructability.
Generate documents including: a.) RFI's (Requests for Information) and/or Changed Work and/or Extra Work as required to ensure completeness of the project documents and identify and clarify any discrepancies. b.) Daily Field Reports c.) 3-week look-ahead schedules d.) Meeting attendance logs e.) Timecards f.) Accident Reports g.) Site Photos h.) As-built drawings
Review submittals for compliance with project manual and plans, manufacturer's recommendations and code, or other standards applicable to the system.
Conduct on-site project meetings and safety meetings with personnel.
Manage subcontractors for all work performed on-site.
Management and supervision of work crews on-site including: a.) Mentor and train field personnel. b.) Manage personnel and their duties to ensure all have resources and information to perform their tasks effectively and efficiently. c.) Manage the overall safety of the project and ensure all personnel has the resources to perform their work safely.
Other duties could include: a.) Work with the project team to maintain relationships with owners, visitors, subcontractors, and suppliers. b.) Manage site work and logistics of the construction site. c.) Assist with business development, bidding, proposals, and obtaining new work.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position is a working Superintendent with supervisory responsibilities. WORK ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, it will take place indoors and outdoors, in confined workspaces, and in elevated areas. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, or other hazardous construction equipment. The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme conditions such as the noise level and working on uneven surfaces where construction debris may be found, near moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment, and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires the employee to lift heavy objects, walk, kneel, sit, climb, and stand for long periods of time; and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects (as much as 100 lbs. and maybe up to 100 yds.); uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support and may be required to do this for long periods of time. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination for repetitive motion. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs and to change bodily positions. This is strenuous work and requires good vision, hearing, and balance to perform safely. The employee must have excellent stamina. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are varied based on the contract performance time allocated to complete work at each project site. Typically, the hours are Monday through Thursday for 10 hours shifts. This position frequently requires long hours. When long hours are required due to critical stages of work overtime may be mandatory otherwise it will be voluntary. This is a non-exempt position and employees are paid overtime as appropriate. TRAVEL
Travel is required and is an essential function of this job. Out-of-area and overnight travel can be expected, depending on the specific project an employee is assigned to. Subsistence is paid and based on the location of the projects an employee is assigned to. It is paid as a per-diem for up to seven days within Subsistence Policy requirements.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
10 + years of construction job site experience.
5 + years of proven leadership or supervisory role.
3 + years experience as superintendent or foreman in high-voltage substation construction (De-energized).
1+ years experience in energized substations.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school graduate or equivalent educational experience; vocational training or trade apprenticeships
Forklift, crane, mini-excavator, man lift, and other equipment and tool operation.
OSHA and equipment certifications are helpful. May obtain after employment.
Basic computer skills with experience in MS Office and MS Project preferred.
ADDITIONAL ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess or be able to obtain a valid and appropriate state driver’s license prior to employment.
A CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is preferred.
Current First Aid and CPR training is required; may obtain after employment.
DOT Physical will be required after employment.
