Program Specialist

Overview
Multnomah County Animal Services (MCAS) is seeking to fill one (1) full-time vacancy at our shelter in Troutdale, Oregon for a dynamic and compassionate Volunteer Program Specialist to lead and grow our volunteer program. In this role, you will be the heart of our volunteer community, empowering individuals to make a real difference in the lives of both animals and people within the community.

As a key member of our shelter team, you'll lead and nurture our vibrant volunteer program. Our volunteers are essential, providing hands-on support in areas like animal care, enrichment activities, veterinary assistance, community outreach, and adoption matchmaking.
Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee day-to-day volunteer activities, providing guidance and support to ensure a positive and impactful experience.
  • Design and implement comprehensive training and onboarding programs, equipping volunteers with the skills and knowledge to succeed.
  • Develop and promote a diverse range of volunteer opportunities that cater to various interests and skill sets.
  • Plan engaging events, create meaningful communications, and express appreciation to volunteers, fostering a sense of belonging and connection.
  • Manage program logistics, including scheduling, supplies, and data tracking, ensuring efficient and effective volunteer engagement.
  • Cultivate strong and lasting relationships with volunteers, offering coaching, support, and mentorship.
  • Maintain high professional standards, ensuring volunteers adhere to policies and procedures while promoting a positive and respectful environment.
  • Actively participate in the review process and collaborate with staff to ensure volunteers are aligned with the agency's mission and goals.
  • Foster a welcoming and inclusive culture where volunteers feel safe, valued, and empowered to contribute their unique skills and perspectives.
  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with all stakeholders, building strong partnerships and fostering collaboration.
  • Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of agency-wide policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and best practices.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $38.00 - $46.70 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
