Nutrition Services Team Leader (Kitchen Lead)
Purpose Statement The role of Nutrition Services Team Leader is to oversee day to day operations, direct kitchen staff at their assigned building, ensuring safe quality food. Nutrition Services Team Leads work alongside their team cooking, serving, cleaning and keeping accurate records. Nutrition Services Team Leads promote a culture of health and wellness in the Ankeny Community School District by providing safe and nutritious foods that support the learning process.

Hourly Wage: $19.40/hr. Hours: 6:30 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. Reports To: Assigned Nutrition Services Management Team Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt Benefit Summary: D
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent education
Positive Attitude and ability to promote a positive team culture
Successful large volume food service production of at least two-years
Effectively communicate written and orally
Successful experience leading a team to achieve department goals
Successful experience in time management
Ability to problem solve in a fast paced environment
Experience in basic word processing and 10-key
Ability to work for extended periods of time in extreme hot/cold conditions
Ability to meet Job Analysis Critical Physical Demands requirements
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
Serve Safe Certification required within 6 months of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
School food service experience of at least three-years
Serv Safe Certification or equivalent
Experience in with maintaining records including, but not limited to: production, invoices, and inventory
Essential Functions
On-Site contact for State of Iowa Health Inspector
Maintain Serv Safe Certification as required
Complete all mandatory continuing education requirements in accordance with USDA and department guidelines by required dates
Ensure that your assigned team adhere to all SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures)
Dependability, punctuality, and initiative are required
Appropriate hygiene and uniform required in accordance with operational guidelines
Actively promote a positive culture towards customers and between nutrition team members
Assure that you and your team members are good stewards of facilities and equipment
Ensure that food is prepared and served safely and attractively, in accordance with set department guidelines
Effectively and respectfully communicate with: Customers, Manager’s, Co-workers, Building Personnel (Administration, Custodial, Maintenance), and Service Providers
Assist in training and re-education of staff in regards to district and department policies, procedures, and guidelines
Accurately record, maintain, and communicate production records to appropriate management
Validate invoices and communicate all discrepancies to the appropriate management
Ensure accuracy of daily inventory logs and communicate inventory needs or concerns to appropriate management
Recommend further areas of training needed for team members
Report all equipment needs and issues to the appropriate management
Proactively look for and recommend ways to improve our services and processes
Perform other duties as may from time to time be assigned by your Manager and/or Assistant Manager, or Director.
Provide EXCELLENT customer service to all people in accordance with department standards
Serve menu items quickly and accurately to meet department standards

Completion of all mandatory trainings by required date
Appropriate hygiene and uniform required in accordance with operational guidelines
Cleaning of all areas including but not limited to: Sweeping/mopping floors, washing tables, dishes, pots/pans and work areas
Setting up and organizing all service areas according to department standards
Responsible for stocking, organizing, and completing inventory of assigned areas in compliance with FIFO (First-In First-Out) and department standards
Ability to setup and operate computer systems
Ability to maintain composure and problem solve in a fast paced environment
Responsible for knowing and executing food service best practices according to SOP’s (Standard Operating Procedures)
Ensure Nutrition Services Team is achieving expectations outlined in the position job schedules, Acts of PRIDE, Operational Guidelines, USDA Guidelines, and Iowa Food Code.
Responsible for filling out all appropriate paperwork in a timely manner including but not limited to: temperature logs, production usage records, leave of absence slips
Working Environment Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors The usual and customary methods of performing the position functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, reaching, driving, standing and walking. Working conditions may include extreme temperatures and humidity. Hazards may include exposure to communicable diseases. This position requires one to maintain emotional control under stress.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform position functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organization’s services.
