Job Description
The role supports the Access and Disabilities Services and TRIO office in providing direct services to students. This position also provides academic advising services, prepare/coordinate education and career plans for students, assist students in understanding campus resources, policies, and regulations. This role also will stay current on adaptive technology, services, college entrance exams, and stay current with ADA guidelines and Minnesota State policy.
This position is 50% funded by a TRIO-SSS grant from the US Department of Education with continuation of this position contingent upon renewed Federal funding.
Principle Responsibilities and Results:
1. Provide supportive services to enhance the retention and academic performance of TRIO program participants including but not limited to:
-
Preparing and facilitating the completion of TRIO education/career plan for each advisee and coordinating ADSO services for students on the Hutchinson campus.
-
Meet with program participants at least twice each term to develop strategies to improve academic performance, to monitor progress toward goals, and to modify academic plans, as needed.
-
Collaboration with support staff, college faculty, and community agencies to acquire information on participants needs.
-
Assist participants in utilizing and understanding career, academic, and financial information; FAFSA and scholarship assistance, and campus resources, policies, and regulations.
2. Provide advising services to qualified TRIO participants, as well as to other students as assigned by the Student Services. Advising services include, but are not limited to:
-
Assisting with the selecting of courses, guidance with graduation, transfer support, develop and implement workshops, student events, four-year college tours, and cultural enrichment activities.

Coordinate/assist in supervising peer tutors/mentors and identify and recruit students to the TRIO program and meet advisees regularly.
3. Monitor student academic and financial aid progress regularly.

Assist students with four-year college transfer applications, financial aid, housing, letters of recommendation, and other transition tasks.

Track participants to transfer schools and maintain a record of last known status in support of the completion of annual reports to the US Department of Education.
4. Represent needs and interests of program participants through involvement in professional development activities, staff training sessions, meetings and college, state or national committees.

Inform college communities of the purpose and procedures of the TRIO program as well as keep current on emerging education policies and issues of relevance to program participants and staff.

Attend assigned department meetings, staff training events and professional development opportunities.
5. Coordinate accessibility & disability services for prospective and enrolled students with disabilities:
-
Monitor and arrange for appropriate accommodation(s) based on documentation and the student’s needs. This will include testing accommodation and provide necessary self-advocacy training for students.

Provide faculty with appropriate notification of services and student Accessibility and Disability Services Office (ADSO) registration.
-
Collaborate with Willmar coordinator to create and annual report of accommodations and services as well as maintain forms, brochures, and website information.
-
Stay current on adaptive technology, college entrance exams, and other third-party testing platforms that the college utilizes.
-
Provide on campus disability services presentations for potential students, and serve as the contact person to arrange for interpreters as needed.

Stay current with ADA guidelines and Minnesota State policies.
-
Be a certified testing proctor for college entrance exams and third-party testing platforms that the college utilizes (such as ATI/TEAS testing for nursing).
6. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion and/or TRIO-SSS Director. To include but not limited to:
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills

Knowledge of and interest in diverse cultures and populations.

Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with the internal and external college and community including students, peers, key contacts, and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualification
-
Master's degree in education or a related field preferred.
-
Three or more years of experience, academic support programs, or similar programs for disadvantaged college students is preferred.
-
Diverse experience at post-secondary institutions, disability services, advising, personal counseling, or related college student personnel experience is strongly encouraged.
-
Knowledge of FERPA, ADA, ADAAA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and other state and federal rules and regulations.
-
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with retention theories
-
Previous two-year college experience.
-
Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers.
