STEM, BUILDING, CONSTRUCTION, AND MANUFACTURING TEACHER

Collaborates With: TMHS Tech Education & Construction Teachers
General Duties: Provide middle school students with exploratory skills in STEM, building, construction, and manufacturing trades to prepare them for high school career pathways in place at Tourtellotte Memorial High School.
Responsibilities:
· Implement the pre-construction and building trades curriculum provided by Home Builders Institute.
· Implement pre-welding curriculum aligned with the American Welding Society and Sea Perch Program.
· Plans and implements instruction within a technology education program that entails lecture, demonstrations, project-based learning, and hands-on-learning experiences within a theory classroom and laboratory setting. Ensures that instruction has a strong alignment with real world learning leading to a student’s participation in industry credentialing.
· Plans and delivers instruction and activities that assists all students with the understanding that this can assist them with being college and career ready.
· Provides instruction to students within a diverse learning environment with a range of varied learning abilities.
· Facilitates the learning process as the students carry out self-initiated/guided projects.
· Participates in the sponsorship of applicable career and technical student organization activities and student competitions (local, state, or national)
· Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned school day.
· Assesses individual student’s current level of functioning to determine needs.
· Designs and implements instructional programs to meet student’s needs.
· Develops lesson plans and organizes class time so that preparation, instruction, lab work, and cleanup activities can be accomplished within. Integrates appropriate technology into classroom instruction. Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent.
· Instructs pupils in the use of eye protection and safety guards, and in the use, care, and safe operation of tools, machines, and equipment; maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to tools and equipment; establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, safe and productive environment.
· Provides substitute teachers with written lesson plans, appropriate materials and instructions as to disciplinary and emergency procedures.
· Participates in the development of curriculum.
· Demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes established curriculum.
· Keeps records of student performances and attendance and evaluates students’ academic growth.
· Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
· Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide a safe, healthy, orderly, and productive classroom environment.
· Maintains prompt and professional communication with parents. Provides classroom environment, which promotes active learning in subject area.
· Participates on an Advisory Committee comprised of persons working in related fields of employment to assist in program development in support of Career Technical Education.
· Participates in activities designed to promote professional growth.
Knowledge & Abilities:
· Building and Construction trades.
· Architectural and Engineering Scale and blueprint reading; basic design software.
· Basic interior and exterior construction including but not limited to carpentry, concrete masonry, drywall, electrical, framing, glazing, insulation, plumbing, and roofing.
· Building and construction trade careers including but not limited to carpentry, concrete placing and finishing, construction equipment operation, drafting occupations, electrician, general contracting, glazing, heating, air conditioning and ventilation installation and service (HVAC), millwork and cabinet making, painting, plumbing, roofing, structural and reinforcement ironwork and tile setting.
· Industry certification processes and ability to incorporate into student instruction (e.g. OSHA, Woodwork Career Alliance (WAC), National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)).
Qualifications:
· Eligible for CT 098 Certification.
· Three (3) years related work experience or one (1) year work experience and two (2) years of specialized schooling.
· Letters of recommendation from current and previous employers in the field.
· High School graduate, Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.
· OSHA and CPR certification preferred or will be obtained.
· Demonstrates the ability to deliver and articulate oral presentations and written reports.
· Effectively interacts with pupils, colleagues, and administrators.
· Knowledgeable in the use of personal computers and content related technology.
· The work involves operating a computer, calculator, copier, and other equipment, and involves repetitive arm and hand movement.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $49,180.00 - $89,377.00 per year
