Essential Function
  • Performs comparisons of field and industry standards with state standards by determining which calibration procedure is needed.
  • Performs comparisons of field and industry standards with state standards by determining which calibration procedure is needed.
  • Assist Chief Metrologist with routine office functions such as scheduling appointments and record keeping.
  • Consults with the National Institute of Standards Technology as a primary technical resource.
  • Assists Chief Metrologist in maintaining traceability to the National Institute of Standards and Technology by the safekeeping and preservation of the state primary standards instrumentation and associated equipment as well as the completion of assigned NIST problems
  • Assists Chief Metrologist in maintaining the accuracy of sophisticated measuring instruments used.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college with courses in physical sciences, mathematics, physics or engineering.
  • Requires successful completion of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) seminars-Fundamentals of Metrology, Mass Metrology and Volume Metrology during first year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefers working knowledge of a wide range of calibration methods, techniques and instruments.
  • Prefers working knowledge of computers and various software products.
  • Prefers working knowledge of the metric system.
  • Prefers experience with assuming responsibility for extreme accuracy of testing procedures.
  • Prefers experience with interpreting and applying weights and measure laws and regulations relating to weighting and measuring devices and equipment.
  • Prefers experience with preparing clear, concise and accurate laboratory reports.
  • Prefers experience with gaining and maintaining satisfactory working relationships with industry and NIST personnel.
  • Prefers successful completion of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) seminars: Fundamentals of Metrology, Mass Metrology and Volume Metrology

  • Requires the ability to successfully pass a background check.
  • Requires a valid driver's license and the ability to travel.
  • Requires occasional overnight stays (employee must pay for travel expenses while waiting to be reimbursed).
