Must have at least one year of medical billing or degree in medical billing

Job Description

Summary: To assist medical providers in using the appropriate ICD10 code, check insurance status, bill insurance appropriately, reconcile EOBs and posts, fight denials, reduce A/R, and answer patient billing questions.
Correctly performs routine billing and coding procedures in a timely and professional manner
Meets assigned deadlines and provide advance warning of problems
Works independently under the billing supervisor
Develops and inputs data into spreadsheet programs using Excel and Word
Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends
Attendance is an essential function of this job.
Acts as a resource within the clinic to other staff members and patients
Participates as a team member and promotes teamwork by assisting others with department activities
Fulfills administrative/clerical duties as necessary
Serves as liaison between patient and medical provider for billing and insurance questions
Represents the clinic in person, over the telephone and in the community in a professional manner
Assists in maintaining an efficient, safe, secure, orderly, and aseptic environment of care for all patients and employees
Is familiar with and abides by OSHA Standards, Hazardous Materials, Universal Precautions, use of personal protective equipment, Evacuation, Fire, Disaster, and Safety Plans
This is a safety-sensitive position.

Required Knowledge and Ability

Knowledge of basic accounting and medical billing processes and terms
Knowledge of HIPPA
Knowledge of medical office protocols and ability to quickly gain specific knowledge of current operational protocols
Knowledge of medical terminology and appropriate abbreviations
Ability to use PC to input data and navigate EMRs
Ability to multitask and remain compassionate
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, letters, and memos
Ability to work cooperatively with insurance agencies, lawyers, medical offices, and patients
Ability to prioritize and allocate resources

Physical Requirements

Normal Family Clinic environment. Frequent computer use and close eye work. Hearing of normal and soft tones. Continuous sitting (>90% of time) with occasional standing, walking, and bending. Repetitive motion of the hands, fingers, and arms. Use of computer - PC, telephone, fax, copier, scanner, printers. Communication skills: Interpersonal, phone, writing procedures and documentation.
