The VP Benefits leads the Benefits COE and partners with our Continent Chief Human Resource Officers to understand their priorities, bring industry-wide best practices to the company’s global population, and identify global efficiencies and synergies.
The VP, Benefits has ownership and accountability for:
Driving a culture of quality and operational excellence balanced with innovation to continually elevate and evolve the Benefits function
Optimizing and managing relationships with external partners (technology and services) that support meeting Marriott’s benefits priorities and needs
Driving US & Canada benefits plans and operations including healthcare, time-off, and retirement programs for associates based in the U.S. and Canada (includes both union and non-union associates)
Driving thought leadership for and adoption of best-in-class benefits practices and programs globally
Some of the role’s near-term priorities include the following:
Continue the evolution of Marriott’s Global Well-being program (Take Care)
Drive performance of the health & wellness function, including managing providers and insurance carriers, onsite health vendors, point solutions, and health plan financial assessments
Lead and further develop the associate hotel discount program (Explore by Marriott Bonvoy) as an industry-leading benefit to continue to excite our associates and attract and retain key talent
Support growth and enhanced customer experience of associate leave of absence, paid time off, and holiday programs, including the continued harmonization of PTO and holiday programs across the US and Canada
Develop strategy for (with International Compensation COE) and execute upon Global Mobility Benefits
Manage and proactively drive 3rd party vendors bringing retirement plans, spending accounts, tuition reimbursement programs to life for all associates
Continue to evolve associate resources such as the Take Care Relief fund, Associate Length of Service award program, and other lifecycle associate recognition programs
CANDIDATE PROFILE
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum 15+ years of experience in Human Resources and/or benefits experience with progressively expanding responsibilities required. Five years or more in a senior US/Canada benefits leadership capacity in an organization with a large, dispersed workforce or equivalent experience.
Advanced systems knowledge in the following: Oracle Human Capital Management (HCM), Microsoft Office, including Excel, Power Point, and enterprise systems.
In addition to the education and experience above, the ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader with strong business acumen, strategic insight, analytical abilities, sound judgment and in-depth executive experience in HR and business. The ideal candidate will have proven and impactful experience in the following:
Demonstrated experience in senior leadership level conceptualizing and designing benefits programs, plans and infrastructure in a large, complex dispersed organization
Reputation as a thought leader in the benefits industry is desired, as the right candidate will have relationships in the benefits external marketplace and understand current and emerging benefits trends.
Data analytics in benefits. Demonstrated ability to manage and pull insights from large sets of data for decision making. The right candidate will have deep experience in blending cost and external competitiveness to drive deployment decisions and necessary adjustments across all departments served with a data driven approach to benefits.
