Position Description
Goldendale Community Library is seeking qualified applicants for a part-time (24 hours/week), Public Services Assistant. This is a great opportunity for individuals who have a passion for working with the public and want to make a positive impact in their communities. The primary responsibilities of a Public Services Assistant are assisting with patrons and books in the library branches. A typical day could include these tasks:
- Routine circulation duties such as shelving materials, checking materials in and out and creating/updating library accounts.
- Answering patron questions on the phone and in person, regarding resources, services, technology, equipment and devices.
- The ideal candidate will be flexible and have strong customer service skills and great attention to detail.
This position frequently requires these physical abilities:
- Lift up to 35 pounds
- Push and pull book carts and book return bins on wheels
- Bend, kneel and reach to shelve books
- Stand for extended periods of time

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Six months or more of customer service experience (preference given to those with retail experience)
Schedule
The schedule for this position is:
- Mondays: OFF
- Tuesdays: OFF
- Wednesdays: OFF
- Thursdays: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- Fridays: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- Saturdays: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- Sundays: OFF
The assigned schedule is subject to change, based on branch needs. Staff will be provided fourteen calendar days notice advance of any changes to their regular schedule.
Compensation
The pay range for this job is $17.40 - $23.49 per hour. Employees have annual pay increases until they reach the top of the pay grade.

Employees are provided 13 paid holidays throughout the year. The initial vacation leave accrual is 11 hours per month for full time and 6.6 hours per month for part time; this increases over time based on years of employment. Sick leave accrual is 8 hours per month for full time and 4.8 for part time per month We also offer other types of paid time off for situations such as jury duty, bereavement leave, inclement weather and more.
