Overview: Supports the receiving of food and supplies, cleanliness of all spaces attached to the kitchen and cafes, and supports the overall mission of the department of food service to patients, visitors and team members Responsibilities:

Dry & Cold Storage Areas: Maintain cleanliness and organization in food and non-food storage areas. Rotate inventory using the First-In, First-Out (FIFO) method, and ensure all shelves, floors, and ceilings are clean. Prepare for major deliveries by ensuring dry storage, refrigerators, and freezers are ready to receive products. Document receiving temperatures and promptly store incoming food items. Assist with inventory management and communicate with management about returns, shortages, damages, or low inventory levels.

Floor Maintenance: Sweep, mop, and wax floors throughout the kitchen, production areas, and cafes. Maintain cleanliness in walk-in refrigerators, production spaces, and seating areas, ensuring floors are safe and free of excess moisture or grease. Coordinate deep cleaning of kitchen and production floors, and ensure proper maintenance of floor cleaning equipment with Environmental Services. Regularly clean floor drains in the department.

Recycling & Trash Management: Ensure all kitchen and cafe areas are free of trash, and properly transport waste to designated areas in accordance with established policies. Maintain cleanliness of all trash and recycling containers and support the department's sustainability efforts.

Production Area Cleanliness: Support the cleanliness of production areas, including shelving, walls, and ceilings, keeping them free of dust and grease. Follow guidelines for cleaning ventilation systems, including kitchen hood vents. Report any equipment maintenance needs, such as repairs or replacements, to management.

Kitchen Equipment Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen equipment, such as mixers, dish machines, coffee machines, etc. Report any concerns related to equipment functionality, such as broken parts, unusual sounds, or leaks.

Cafe Cleanliness: Ensure the serving and seating areas of both cafes are clean and dust-free, including walls, ceilings, furniture, and equipment. Support ongoing cleaning throughout the shift and report any maintenance needs, such as broken lights or damaged furniture.

Inventory Support: Assist with inventory management of both food and non-food supplies, following departmental policies and procedures. Support the inventory process as assigned by management.

Departmental Support: Adjust your daily schedule to accommodate the department’s priorities, including receiving orders, stocking cafes, and cleaning. Be prepared to assist in customer service roles, including operating the cash register and assisting with food service at steam tables or grills. Contribute to maintaining a safe and efficient environment, ensuring high-quality, safe food service for customers. Support the delivery of carts to patient care areas as needed.

Patient & Cafe Stock: Support the gathering and delivery of supplies to patients and cafeterias. Follow established floor stock policies and procedures to ensure items are available for smooth customer flow in both cafes, especially during meal service.

Qualifications:
Previous experience with institutional food and/or housekeeping desired. Experience with food service equipment, as well as floor cleaning equipment. Kitchen Tech Competency - must pass the Kitchen Tech Competency prior to 90-day evaluation.
