K-5 Literacy Tutor, Durham Public Schools (NC Education Corps)
As a NC Education Corps Member, you will work part-time, in-person DURING THE SCHOOL DAY at one of 8 participating elementary schools in Durham County. To follow the high impact tutoring model, you will work at least 3 days a week, in-person with 1-3 students for 30 minutes at a time. This work will support K-5 students with their foundational literacy skills. Tutors will focus on the five pillars of reading: phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. You will become a part-time employee of DPS, and as such will be paid hourly. Candidates with an active NC teaching license will qualify for the $25/hour pay rate. All tutors will participate in required professional learning during the school year. A paid initial training will be required upon employment start date with the opportunity to opt into monthly professional development. Additionally, your NCEC Learning Coach will offer the opportunity for coaching calls and school-based site visits. Valid Teaching Certification
Strong tutoring and teaching skills
Experience in curriculum development and lesson planning
Proficiency in learning technology and classroom management
Background in early childhood education and special education
Experience working with children and adults in educational settings
Ability to create engaging learning environments for diverse learners
