JOB
Under general supervision performs major maintenance and repair on water distribution facilities. An employee in this class is expected to perform the more difficult repair work involved in maintaining and repairing water distribution system.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Maintains and repairs water distribution system Inspects water mains, meters and valves to detect leaks Bolts leak proof collars to water mains to stop leaks Replaces defective water meters using hand tools Replaces damaged pipe sections and seal joints Bolts leak proof collars to water mains to stop leaks Installs packing material in valves to make them watertight and replaces defective water meters, using plumber's hand tools Drills and threads holes in water mains for service connections, using hand powered tapping tool Repairs and maintains pumps; assists with repairing street and sidewalk with concrete Operates compactor, jumping jack and/or elephant foot to perform compaction of backfill materials
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
High school diploma including courses in the mechanical or plumbing and electrical trade, and three years experience as a General Maintenance Worker 2nd Class, or similar position performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled mechanical, metal, plumbing, and electrical maintenance or repair tasks.
