Position Summary: The EMS Instructor is responsible for teaching EMS-related courses, including EMT and AEMT certification programs. They will provide instruction in both classroom and clinical settings, ensuring students are prepared to meet state and national certification requirements. The instructor will develop lesson plans, assess student performance, and stay updated with the latest industry standards and best practices. Key Responsibilities: Instruction & Training: · Deliver EMS training, including classroom lectures, skills labs, and practical scenarios. · Teach courses in accordance with state and national guidelines, including CPR, First Aid, EMT, and AEMT certification programs. · Develop and implement lesson plans, instructional materials, and training resources. · Assist in updating and maintaining EMS course curricula in compliance with accreditation and licensing requirements. · Stay updated on advancements in EMS protocols and integrate new information into training programs. · Monitor and evaluate student progress through written exams, practical skill assessments, and clinical evaluations. · Provide feedback and coaching to students to improve performance and ensure competency in required skills. · Prepare students for certification exams by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) or other certifying bodies. · Liaise with clinical sites to ensure smooth operation of student externships and that educational objectives are met. Administrative Duties: · Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and competencies. · Participate in faculty meetings, continuing education, and professional development activities. · Promote and ensure a safe learning environment by enforcing safety procedures during practical training. Qualifications: Education: · Associate or Bachelor’s degree in EMS, Nursing, Healthcare, or a related field (preferred). · NREMT Certification as an EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic (required). Experience: · Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a certified EMT, AEMT or paramedic in a clinical or field setting. · Prior teaching or training experience in EMS or healthcare (preferred). Certifications: · Current NREMT EMT, AEMT or Paramedic certification (required). · Instructor certification in BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support), and/or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) (preferred). · Instructor credentials from a recognized institution such as NAEMT (National Association of EMTs) or NAEMSE (National Association of EMS Educators) (required) · Instructor credentials from a recognized institution such AHA (American Heart Association) (preferred). Skills: · Strong communication, presentation, and instructional skills. · Ability to manage classroom dynamics and maintain student engagement. · Organizational skills to manage course schedules, grading, and compliance documentation. · Competency in using technology for educational purposes (e.g., online learning platforms, simulation tools). Working Conditions:
Classroom and simulation lab environment.
May require travel to clinical or externship sites.
· Occasional evening or weekend hours for special courses or student availability.
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during work shift.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist. Lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
