Electronics Technician III

Overview: Summary
Lays out, rigs up, builds, tests, troubleshoots, repairs and modifies oilfield production electronic components, parts, equipment, and systems, such as computer equipment, data acquisition instrumentation, flow tubes, densitometers, pressure transducers, test equipment, and other various hydraulic fracturing machinery and controls, applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, mathematics, electronic and electrical testing, as well as leading, directing and training teams of Electronics Technicians on location.
Responsibilities: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (Additional duties may be assigned as necessary):


Performs the duties and responsibilities of Electronics Technician I and II. Provides mentoring, direction and training for subordinate Electronic Technicians. Assists the Lead Electronics Technician and Electronics Supervisor in scheduling shop and field work. Performs the job function of the Lead Electronics Technician as required.



Performs advanced use of Data Van control software to include: installation, configuration, and remote usage, pull and analyze log data files and configuration files from a Data Van or other unit. Trains and assists electronics personnel on equipment capabilities and usage to include Data Van software.



Performs tracking, ordering and accountability of repair parts, ready spares and consumables for the electronics department. Writes equipment trouble reports, tracks issues and develops solutions for solving equipment problems. Communicates equipment status details and directions in a clear and coherent manner.



Coordinates with appropriate personnel in regards to completing work requests, troubleshooting and upgrading equipment. Coordinates with operations supervisors regarding equipment status, emergency repairs and best practices of equipment usage.



Displays advanced knowledge of circuits, systems and components utilized on the fracturing equipment. Analyzes and modifies standard circuitry to improve its performance or to perform special effects.



Performs maintenance of computer systems including software and hardware updates. Completes preventive maintenance and visual inspections using authorized procedures, preventive maintenance forms, and reporting media.



Maintains daily work logs, paperwork requirements, and work orders on a timely and efficient basis.



Reads, comprehends, and interprets blueprints/drawings, schematics, and procedures and relates them to the facility/equipment and have the ability to troubleshoot non-standard electronic devices or devices for which documentation is incomplete or not available.



Develops wiring diagrams, layout drawings for system or equipment modifications or expansion.



Sets up and runs tests with minimal supervisory and/or engineering support. Creates test procedures with minimal supervisory and/or engineering support.



Performs failure analysis and communicates findings effectively using standalone reports and/or other software.

Education and/or Experience

Two year certificate or degree from college or technical school in Computer/Electronics preferred; minimum of four years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to speak effectively, present information, and respond to questions before employees of organization and groups of customers.


Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Ability to use mathematical formulas to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


Computer Skills

Advanced knowledge in Microsoft Programs, Database management, communications and networking protocols, servers, Web and Cloud services.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
Previous work as a Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) is highly desired.


Other Skills and Abilities

Professional, clear verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work flexible schedule, including long and/or irregular hours.
Ability to work in remote locations.
Ability to read equipment prints and schematics to perform advanced troubleshooting.
Ability to work autonomously with no supervision and meet strict deadlines.
Ability to read and write minimal English for safety reasons.
Bilingual is a plus.


Other Qualifications

At least 3 years of experience in maintenance and repair of instrumentation including but not limited to: flow meters, transducers, densitometers, PLCs and other measurement controls.
Knowledge of a wide variety of electronic test equipment and various mechanical hand tools.
Knowledge of mechanical and/or hydraulic systems is preferred.
Ability to perform advanced soldering techniques.
