Director of Quality Assurance

OVERVIEW:
The Director of Quality Assurance will lead our company wide food safety and quality assurance efforts. This role is crucial in upholding our top-tier food safety standards, ensuring all Anchor facilities comply with customer and regulatory requirements. The individual will collaborate with organizational leaders, engage in industry events, and serve as a thought leader in food safety and quality assurance for pet and human food markets.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Food Safety and Quality Assurance:
  • Strategically oversee food safety and quality assurance functions, ensuring integration and adherence to industry best practices and regulatory requirements across all Anchor owned and operated facilities.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to establish and enforce quality benchmarks, continuing to make quality a key component of the company's value proposition.
  • Proactively identify compliance gaps and improvement opportunities, implementing corrective actions to elevate our standards of food safety and product quality.
  • Lead crisis management efforts, including recall strategies and customer issue resolution, maintaining the company’s reputation and customer trust.
  • Ensure up-to-date compliance with evolving food safety and quality regulations, preparing the organization for future changes and challenges in the pet and human food markets.
  • Develop new and enhance existing policies for facility operations, emphasizing continuous improvement and regulatory compliance while providing clear and concise steps to achieve end goals.
  • Participate in SQF audits & audit preparations.
Leadership and Culture:
  • Oversee Plant Quality Managers and Quality Assurance Managers at Anchor owned facilities.
  • Foster a company-wide culture that prioritizes food safety and quality, leading by example and setting a high standard for all employees.
  • Design and implement comprehensive training programs to educate employees at all levels about food safety practices and quality assurance protocols.
  • Foster and grow an internal culture of food safety and drive continuous quality improvements across each Anchor owned facilities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with departments such as marketing, sales, operations, and procurement to ensure alignment and effective communication of food safety and quality goals.


QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or Food/Ag related fields
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in food safety and quality assurance
  • Proven experience in a senior quality role within the food, grain, milling or animal protein industry
  • Extensive knowledge of food safety regulations and quality assurance best practices
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to foster a culture of quality and continuous improvement
  • Strong working knowledge and direct experience with USDA, HACCP, GMP, FDA and SQF programs and audit processes
  • Demonstrated problem solving experience
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the calendar month to be on site when needed at Anchor owned facilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Excel, Teams, Word, and Power Point
  • Flexibility and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

This job operates within both a professional office environment as well as ingredient processing facilities. While performing the duties of this job within the processing facilities, the employee will be exposed to machinery and moving parts. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, high precarious places and confined spaces, & airborne particles including grain dust and hazardous materials or fumes, which may require the use of PPE. The noise level in some of the work environments may require the use of hearing protection. While performing the duties of this job inside the office, the employee is frequently exposed to normal working conditions for an office environment with a noise level that is usually quiet to moderate.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods of time as well as use hands or fingers to reach or handle, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. All vision abilities are required to encompass close-up work. On occasion, employee must be able to tolerate and endure extended seasonal hours and maintain alertness to meet deadlines.
