YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION: NORMA HERR Some are surprised to learn we don't offer swim lessons and other recreational sports related activities, yet, from its inception, the YWCA of Greater Cleveland has been dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all. YWCA recognizes the systemic barriers to housing such as racism, sexism, and ableism and every day our staff work with women at Norma Herr Women's Shelter to navigate these barriers. After taking over the site operations in 2018, Norma Herr still remains Cleveland's only low-barrier emergency shelter for adult women aged 18-80, serving an average of 190 or more guests each night providing each person with access to safe shelter and up to 3 meals a day, 365 days a year. YOUR IMPACT AS A CERTIFIED INTERVENTION TEAM MEMBER As a Certified Intervention Team Member, you will have the opportunity to participate in specialized training to enhance your skills in identifying mental health challenges and implementing trauma-informed care practices. Your role will be vital in reducing the likelihood of individuals experiencing crises ending up in the criminal justice system. Collaborating with community partners will allow you to provide timely stabilization for guests, whether addressing psychiatric or medical needs. Additionally, completing detailed electronic shift reports at the end of each shift will ensure seamless communication and continuity of care for those in need. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR IN A CERTIFIED INTERVENTION TEAM MEMBER To excel in this vital role, candidates must possess critical skills such as proficiency in utilizing mental health disorder training to help with enabling the identification of various conditions. Strong interpersonal abilities and emotional regulation in high-stress scenarios are crucial. The capacity to operate effectively both autonomously and collaboratively within a team is crucial. Previous experience in homeless systems is preferred to navigate the unique challenges individuals may face. A thorough understanding of trauma and trauma-informed care principles is necessary for providing appropriate support. Demonstrating cultural competence, being non-judgmental, and exhibiting kindness, patience, and empathy are paramount. Handling pressure with a positive and firm approach while delivering services is key to success in this role. Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
Training on mental health disorders and how they present.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to regulate self in difficult and high crisis situations.
Ability to work independently and within a team.
Prior experience working in homeless systems.
Knowledge and awareness of trauma and trauma informed care facilities.
Works well with all cultures and backgrounds non-judgmental.
Kind, patient, understanding while being firm and positive with the delivery of services.
Must be able to handle stressful situations.
