The Clinician works to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the children and youth for the assigned program. This position works closely with children, youth, foster parents, and community partners, providing assessments, counseling, advocacy, mental health stabilization and support toward the ultimate goal of unification with a sponsor family and living safely and successfully in the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform all work in a manner consistent with the National Youth Advocate Programs mission, values, and philosophies.
  • Collaborate with the cross-functional service team to provide trauma-informed mental health related services including conducting required assessments, referrals to mental health providers and assessments to identify human trafficking concerns.
  • Maintain an active clinical caseload pursuant to the assigned program ratio and consistently achieve established service delivery thresholds.
  • Provide minimum of one weekly one-to-one counseling session (or more often if needed), and two group counseling sessions per week, as well as provide crisis intervention if needed.
  • Facilitate family sessions as needed.
  • Perform visits at foster caregivers homes within pre-established days from the childs admission as needed.
  • Continually monitor the mental well-being of clients and arrange for appropriate services as needed, including arranging for and facilitating external specialized services with community mental health providers.
  • Complete Risk, UC Assessments, Human Trafficking, RST assessment, safety plans, post 18 age out plans, and other assessments as required by the assigned program within expected timeframes.
  • Provide consultation and documentation regarding clients functioning, mental health status, and treatment needs.
  • Participate in staffing with the cross-functional team and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate clinical services and work with the cross-functional team to coordinate family reunification services for children, including active involvement in discharge planning.
  • Provide orientation to children in care.
  • When necessary, travel to provide community-based services to, and on behalf of, youth and families in compliance with organizational, contract, and regulatory requirements.
  • Complete all required documentation and training in a timely manner.
  • Consistently achieve established productivity thresholds.
  • Coordinate and monitor services for the youth and family in the community, including but not limited to, medical, educational, psychological, and social services.
  • Screen for human trafficking concerns and provide resources for crisis intervention services.
  • Regularly review and modify individual service plans in collaboration with case management team to assure consistent progress and success on written plan goals.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationship with assigned foster parents.
  • Assist in placement efforts with the youths sponsor or other permanent living arrangement consistent with the youths case plan.
  • Provides safety assessment, crisis response, and behavioral stabilization services as required to assure safety and stability for children and youth served.
  • Participate and maintain compliance with Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) requirements.
  • Actively participate in the weekly supervision process.
  • Perform other duties as requested.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's degree in social work with clinical experience in the program and must be licensed or eligible for licensure; OR bachelors degree plus 5 years clinical employment experience and must be licensed or eligible for licensure (if the state does not offer a license for bachelor degrees, this is not an option).
  • A willingness to work flexible and non-traditional hours with a possibility of being on call on nights/weekends, in the service of foster caregivers, families of origin, and persons served.
  • Must be able to organize, navigate, and physically escort youth to various travel destinations possibly including airlines, trains, and buses. Travel may include out-of-state trips up to 25%-30% to unify youth with families.
  • Driving personal vehicle in the performance of this job is required. Must have a valid drivers license, vehicle in good working order, and insurance with $100,000/$300,000 limits.
  • Capacity to be flexible and responsive to youth served, foster caregivers, system partners, and internal customers.
  • Capacity to remain objective and professional in all areas of job function.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish fluency required to serve the children and families.
  • Proficient use of desktop and laptop computers, internet search, people management programs, smart phones and tablets, printers, fax machines and photocopiers as well as software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
  • Ability to travel frequently and drive vehicle while sitting for extended periods, with frequency varying based on program demands.
