Position Summary

The Division of Library & Information Resources/H. T. Sampson Library at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Archives Specialist position.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education

Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program.

Minimum Required Experience

Professional experience with a focus on archives and/or history education services.

Minimum Required Licenses and/or Certifications

None.

Qualifications

Willing to acquire knowledge of principles, practices, and archival standards, including digitization and digital preservation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Management, appraisal, processing, preservation, and organization of archival materials, including special collections and university records.
Develop and implement policies and procedures for archival management, ensuring protection and accessibility of materials.
Provide reference services and research assistance related to the archives, special collections, and other areas of the library, as needed.
Digitize archival materials and manage digital preservation initiatives.
Promote awareness of archival resources through outreach exhibits and collaborations.
Share nights and weekends.
