The Department of History at the University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Teaching Associate in Medieval History with specialist knowledge on the history of sexuality in early medieval Europe. The role holder will have a Ph D already awarded (or to be awarded by the time of the appointment) in the relevant subject area, or equivalent qualification, with teaching experience at undergraduate level in medieval history.

We are welcoming, supportive and caring, conscious that diversity in our community is fundamental to our values and vital to our success. The role holder will be able to demonstrate an ability to make a positive difference to issues of underrepresentation. We are particularly keen to receive applications from people currently underrepresented in the field of History, such as those from marginalised genders (e.g. women, non-binary, trans), people with disabling conditions, and people from Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds.
Shortlisting is anonymous: we cannot see any personal data or the ‘Additional Information’ section in your application until shortlisting is completed. Shortlisting is by criteria-based questions based on the person specification, rather than CV or letter.
About the role:
  • Deliver modules in medieval, and contributing lectures and seminars within the Department's overall teaching programme.
  • Supervise and examine undergraduate students.
  • Teach seminar groups, developing their knowledge and learning skills.
  • Take a proactive role in the pastoral support of students.
  • Contribute positively and proactively to the Department’s teaching culture.
This is a part-time (18 hours per week), fixed-term post commencing 6th January 2025 until 30th June 2025.
Requests for secondment from internal candidates may be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Jeremy Taylor, Head of Department, email: jeremy.taylor@nottingham.ac.uk; please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
