Role: Research Associate in AI for Remote Virtual Production

Job Purpose:
We are seeking to appoint a Research Associate to work on a “5G Film Anywhere” project, funded by DSIT as part of the Belfast 5G Innovation Region (5GIR) programme. Ulster University has one of the UK’s leading Film and Virtual Production facilities and the successful candidate will have opportunity to work within high-tech environments in Studio Ulster and Ulster University to unlock potential of 5G technology for remote Virtual Production.
The post holder will work within a multi-disciplinary team, in partnership with two other research associates, to help design, build, and deploy state-of-the-art solution within the “5G Film Anywhere” context. In this project, we aim to build an end-to-end solution for remote Digital Virtual Production by combining 5G technology and a new innovative codec solution to achieve real-time and high-capacity radio links between on-location filming and production studios. This research post will focus on building the practical use case for the project, which may involve the use of Unreal Engine for 3D world-building and animation of characters and processing of point cloud data (gathered by photogrammetry) cameras) from real world locations into textured mesh landscapes for near real time digital production.
We may create a 12-month waiting list for same or similar roles within the Department / Faculty. The University reserves the right to extend the waiting list across the University if required for certain posts.
