We are currently recruiting for 1 x Proof Reader for the day shift, Monday - Friday, please only apply if you can work this shift. This is a full time position, not freelance. Due to the nature of this role, it is recognised that it can be performed mostly remotely with the expectation of coming into the Newcastle office as business needs require. We require a minimum of 2 years solid proof reading experience to be considered for the role.
The Role Key Responsibilities The Proofreader reports to the Global Business Support (GBS) Document Production Management team and is expected to create a positive working relationship with team members in their group. The Proofreader is expected to lead on workflow management of the tasks in house on a daily basis, working alongside the Workflow Specialist (WFS) to prioritise/ provide estimates and deadlines. Proof Reading and Administration Providing an accurate and high-quality proofreading service to fee earners. Working on all profiles for proof reading, checking the quality and integrity of documents including: amendments, word-for-word, copy types, format checking conversions into Clifford Chance house style, book-reads, cross-referencing of clauses, and defined terms checks. To independently spot ambiguities and problems with sense, spelling, punctuation, style and grammar regardless of the brief given and highlight such findings to the lawyer. To independently ensure that all Clifford Chance documents are presented in the correct house style regardless of the brief given and inform the lawyer of anything that does not follow best practice. Manage jobs via the WFSs and the shared Proofing distribution list and prioritise based on work booked in advance and agreed deadlines, regardless of the job profile. Communicate regularly with WFSs in relation to workload, deadlines and assistance, taking into consideration any time constraints and providing estimates and deadlines to jobs submitted. Work with proof reading software 'Contract Companion' to ensure best added value results are returned to the lawyer. Ensuring the accurate use of the workflow system. Working seamlessly with the Firm's document management system i Manage for all document retrieval and return to the system. Ensure any task handovers are completed in detail and accurately to ensure a continuous, seamless service. Team support Working collaboratively with team members to ensure the provision of first class support services to fee earners across GBS, including remote colleagues based in Delhi, Hyderabad, Newcastle and London. Establish, maintain and develop effective communication with team/colleagues globally. Complete any ad-hoc duties as requested by line management. Client Focus Delivery of exceptional customer service, portray a proactive, friendly, helpful, willing and efficient attitude at all times. Leading as first point of contact on client communications (queries, discussing projects/work and returning completed jobs) and extending information to WFSs and GBS DP Management team as required. Ensuring timely, efficient and accurate communications with clients. Working Relationships Proofreader's success will be dependent on the positive and collaborative working relationships which they build with colleagues. Fee earners to whom they provide first-line support
Global Business Service Team Members (inc. remote working Delhi/Hyderabad/Newcastle/London)
All Business Professional services
Liaise with lawyers, practice assistants, trainees, paralegals and DP staff regarding document deadlines, workflow estimations, including current and expected workloads. You will also ensure that "Best Practice" guidelines are adhered to at all times, and will liaise with other teams to achieve common business objectives.
Qualifications
Your Experience Skills & Experience
A very good command of the English language, written (including spelling) and verbal are essential
A keen eye for detail, self-motivated, with precision focus
Must have very good PC skills to include a good working knowledge of the most common Microsoft applications: Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point. Also experience of working with Document Management and Job Logging systems as well as Adobe PDF for scanning
Strong communication skills are vital as you will be dealing with lawyers, partners, practice assistants, trainees, paralegals and various support staff regularly
Can demonstrate experience of using own initiative / judgement
Have previous experience of working in a team
Have experience of working to deadlines, prioritising a busy workload and working under pressure, especially when working alone or during the closing of deals
Must have two years solid Proofreading experience in English UK and English US
Previous experience within a legal environment would be an advantage
Flexibility of working hours is required, driven by workload volumes
