Interview date: 21st October 2024 About the service NYAS provides mental health advocacy to children, young people and vulnerable adults within mental health settings throughout the UK. Our service provides independent advocacy to people within mental health hospitals and community-based settings. We support individuals to ensure their voice is heard regarding their care and treatment and that they are aware of their rights. The primary users of our services are vulnerable adults however some settings do include working with children and young people. About the role As an Advocate you will work with patients within a mental health setting, working towards agreed outcomes and ensuring that they are aware of what options are available to them. Your role is to listen to them, hear how they feel and what it is they want and support them so that they can express their views, wishes and feelings in decisions that affect their lives and their care. In your application, you will need to evidence, using specific examples, how your skills and experience meet the criteria laid out in the person specification, within the job description attached. Requirements include:
Significant practice experience in delivering direct work to children, young people and vulnerable adults in a relevant setting, i.e. social care/health/education
Knowledge of the legal and policy frameworks for vulnerable children and young people (and vulnerable adults) and how this applies to the role
Experience and understanding of child protection/vulnerable adult safeguarding procedures
An understanding of the importance of listening to children and young people without bias or prejudice
An ability to communicate effectively and to a high standard both orally and in writing to a wide range of people.
