Job Description:
Position Overview:
Reporting to the Manager of Adult Outpatient Ambulatory and Community Mental Health, the Mental Health Clinician/Therapist will provide comprehensive psychosocial assessments and individual and group therapy to adults in our Outpatient Mental Health program.
Responsibilities:
- Providing clinical intake assessments and application of screening tools and rating scales for use in treatment planning
- Data collection and documenting utilizing EPIC
- Providing individual therapy and group facilitation and psychoeducation according to a variety of theoretical models and best practices
- Establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships based on trust with patients and their families, participating in case conferences/meetings with patients, family, service providers and members of the interprofessional team
- Collaboration and clinical support to colleagues to meet the needs of the patient population serviced and to provide integration and continuity across the care continuum
- Demonstrating an ability to be sensitive to cultural and ethical issues
This position is ideal for a mental health clinician with a strong clinical knowledge and background who has a passion for working with clients to provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions with individuals and groups.
Requirements:
- Preferred - Master’s of Social Work Degree (MSW) and current registration with the Ontario College of Social Work, or,
- Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and registration College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario or other college / regulatory body as per the R.H.P.A
- Minimum 5 years of previous experience working in mental health
- Familiarity with community partners and mental health agencies in Scarborough
- Excellent knowledge of the DSM-5 diagnosis, symptomology and recommended treatments
- In-depth knowledge and expertise with people across the lifespan who experience serious mental challenges
- Demonstrated experience with assessment, crisis intervention, and goal-oriented, solution-focused therapy techniques with individuals and groups
- Well-developed skills in conducting psycho-social assessments for people who are experiencing mental health challenges
- Knowledge and application of the Mental Health Act
- Demonstrated knowledge of recovery model principles, Trauma-Informed Care, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour therapy
- Experience in developing and facilitating treatment groups
- Excellent interpersonal communication and documentation skills
- Proven ability as an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team
- Demonstrated pattern of good attendance
- Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to SHN’s comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area
- Demonstrates a commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers and other members of the community and public
